Metro Deaf School. Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow
Metro Deaf School is a free public charter school for students ages 3—21, who are primarily Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing. We are an urban day school serving the seven-county Twin Cites, Minnesota and western Wisconsin area.
At Metro Deaf School, our curriculum is unique. We use a bilingual, American Sign Language (ASL) and English, interdisciplinary curriculum. Students are taught the linguistic structure of both languages, and the two languages are equally valued. Research has shown that students who have higher levels of ASL proficiency also have higher levels of English literacy (Strong and Prinz, 1007)
We welcome you to our Facebook page, and encourage you to take a look and comment on what you see. We ask that your comments be positive and encouraging to those in the pictures or status updates. Metro Deaf School promotes academic excellence for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students using an ASL/English bilingual approach. Our primary purpose is to empower our students to develop the skills and knowledge to succeed as global citizens.
