Emergency care can easily take an hour or more to take care of your child. Visit a different hospital if you are looking for better care. I'm still waiting... and counting the time. UPDATE...After one hour we left without attention. Don't waste your time.
Went in on Labor Day weekend and was processed quickly, despite the detour through construction which was frustrating. Staff was very attentive and pleasant. They spoke very positively to my daughter and all showed compassion in wishing her a speedy recovery. Doctor was professional and communicative, with great bedside manner. Nurse was also kind and communicative. After discharge, there was an issue with the Rx at the pharmacy. I called the ER and they quickly tended to the issue.
We came here for our 3yo daughter for what ended up being a life threatening emergency and our experience has been very different from the rest of the reviews. We were checked in in 10’, called in 5’ later, then everything went really quickly from tests/ultrasound/diagnosis to the surgery. She received high quality care, totally adapted to children and the staff was also very much able to communicate with her gently, simply explaining to her what they were about to do before proceeding. I hope we never have to come back, but if so, we know our children will be in safe, capable hands. Shout out to Dyana the nurse who accompanied us up to surgery - you make a difference!
My son broke his femur at 11 pm and they won’t operate on him till morning because they say its not an emergency. Bone is broken in half and leg is super swollen. I don’t understand how this isnt considered an emergency for a 3 year old. They gave him morphine and is still crying and can’t fall sleep from the pain. 8 am next day and still hasn’t been attended into the surgery room for broken femur. Don’t bring your kids here they have not since of urgency when it comes to real emergencies
Very fast and professional. The doctor was knowledgeable and treated my baby thoroughly. We were in and out within 30 min. Highly recommended!
Nicklaus Children's Hospital ER is reflective of healthcare in this country generally - expensive with a low price/quality ratio. As a European expat living in Miami, my children's health is of utmost importance of course, so i want to give them access to the best practitioners as possible. In an emergency you are more desperate so less fussy about who you see but rather when you see. So when I walked into ER at Nicklaus one evening with my 2 year-old son who had a deep gash across his forehead and bleeding profusely i certainly did not expect to wait 3 hours in the waiting room. Anything more than an hour is absolutely unacceptable in a developed country like America, particularly in a private facility where you are paying very high rates for a premium service. After showing us into a treatment room we waited a further hour so 4 total, my son's forehead still bleeding and at that point i decided it was not possible to put my child through one more second of suffering. I left calmly even though i was absolutely seething inside and brought him to a family member dermatologist who put 7 stitches in what took a whole 20 minutes. 5 hours after my son's accident we could finally go home - no thanks to Nicklaus which was a big waste of our time. Our previous experience was better, but still well over an hour to be checked-in and another hour waiting in the treatment rooms - again, not acceptable for ER. It seems like hospitals are also suffering from labour shortages according to some friends in the industry... I sympathise but the hospital has to manage its operations capacity better, and by better i mean much better. That means probably having to say "yes" to less people, as the poor service is a big risk on the business as customers will simply go use an alternative, particularly now that there are alternatives. Management should take note and stop the slide.
I went there to make sure my son gasping for air was not asthma and I wasted my time. After the 10 min paperwork they proceed to a quick examination to my son who consisted in checking my son weight and height seriously!? and pulse. Then I was transferred to a room to proceed with a Covid test even though I mentioned he had two before getting there and another nurse, one doctor, 20 min between this useless checking. Almost three hours later they gave him some oxygen and meanwhile I got a call from the front desk asking me to pay over the phone. I was holding my son’s oxygen mask so I asked her to let me pay at the end but he kept pressing me to pay right there. Two days before someone in my family went to a Walgreens clinic and she had a better care with no wait, almost no paperwork and less expensive. Definitely will recommend people to stay away from the ER department
DO NOT COME TO THIS ER!!!! The wait time is insane taking in consideration that they are children!! Went in with my 11 month old that had very high fever and a consistent cough and had to wait in the lobby for two hours! There were only two patients in front of me. After finally getting called in, another two hours passed and not even ONE nurse came to at least check up on my child. The room was extremely cold and it was 5am already. When I went to ask one of the nurses for information, first I couldn’t find any and the ones that were there were just talking to each other and completely ignoring the fact that I was standing there. Right after my mom went out to also find someone and asked them why it was taking so long, they said there were still three patients ahead of my son. My mom told him we were going to go home because it was inhumane to be waiting for that long with a sick child and the nurse just said “then leave”. Of course, I ended up leaving without being seen by anyone. If they are short on doctors or whatever it is that is going on, they should inform you so you could have the option to go elsewhere. If you really have an emergency, please do not go to this place!!!!
This is by far the worst emergency room for any child. Do not bring your child here. Going on 4.5 hours in a room waiting to be seen. My child has pneumonia, hasn't had fluid intake, has been vomitting everything we attempt, hasnt been able to keep in antibiotics. Completely disregarded. How did any of these supposed doctors get certified. Its absolutely ridiculous. Incompetent staff.
Had the most horrible experience at Nicklaus emergency room. Took my daughter in to be checked and was there for about 4 hours. I understand that there will be a wait time, but there is no excuse to have a parent and a sick child waiting in a room for 3 hours with no attention whatsoever. They've lost their sense of empathy and compassion. Of course, the billing department did not take long to call my cell for payment while I was waiting in the room with no one attending to my child. I didn't pay until my daughter was taken care of. I WILL NEVER come to this ER again, I'll stick with either the Memorials or Joe Dimaggio. Gave one star because there was ONE nurse that tried to be helpful, all the others acted as if they were being bothered.
