The MOTION Science Institute is focused on exploring, educating, and engaging in MusculOskeleTal Injury preventiON
The ultimate goal of the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory at the University of North Carolina is to help individuals perform at their highest level of performance while minimizing their risk for injury. To achieve this goal we will incorporate a systematic and sport specific process of assessment and exercise prescription, which is based on our research. The goal the process is to maximize the individual’s movement quality, flexibility, coordination, stability, strength, speed, agility, quickness, and power.
In addition we will assist in the development of evidence based educational materials to support the assessment and training procedures. Furthermore, we will research the outcomes from the systematic assessment and training procedures. This information will be used to validate and further refine the assessment and training recommendations.
Explore cutting-edge research to minimize musculoskeletal injury and disability; educate the next generation of scientists and clinicians; and engage with the public to translate innovative approaches that improve quality of life.
