Myron and Sonya Glassberg Family Conservation Area

Description

Myron and Sonya Glassberg Family Conservation Area is a 429acre protected area in northwestern Jefferson County, Missouri. It is south of Eureka and southeast of Pacific. The Glassberg Family Conservation Area is located within the watershed of the Meramec River, primarily in the watershed of LaBarque Creek. The Young Conservation Area is about 0.2mi to the east and LaBarque Creek Conservation Area is about 1.2mi to the southwest. The acquisition of the conservation area's land was made possible by a donation from the Myron and Sonya Glassberg Family and the Forest Legacy Program run by the U.S. Forest Service. The land was acquired to protect the water quality of LaBarque Creek, which is one of the highest quality streams in the St. Louis area, with at least 42 species of fish. The area was opened to the public in December 2012.There is a 3mi loop hiking trail, a 0.5mi trail around 3acre Buder Lake, which is open to fishing, and a scenic overlook above the Meramec River. There are five additional fishless ponds. A limestone monument designed by Gail Cassilly and dedicated to the Glassberg family is located near the parking area. No horses, camping, motorized vehicles, or bicycles are permitted in the area.

Really nice park and trail. The elevation isnt bad and parts of the trail are gravel. It winds thru some really pretty areas. The lake is completely empty. First time there, looking forward to returning in the spring. Lots of moss and mushrooms!
Great trail. The loop is about 3 miles long. Add half a mile if you want to walk around the lake, too. The trail is well maintained. Safe, but strenuous. There are a few sections that wind through fields and they are beautiful!
Great, medium intensive, 3 mile plus primary trail. Variety of fields, streams, ponds, and forests. Lots of inclines and winding trails. Fun and challenging for amateurs and the experienced, alike. Make the trip to this nicely put together park.
Has great features, but can be a mess. The view from the overlook is great. The path to the overlook is mostly paved, so it's not messy after rain or thaw. Along the way is a nice waterfall and a few good rock formations. It's near other hiking trails, convenient to visit on the same day as Hilda J Young or LaBarque or on the way to Don Robinson. The trail after the overlook can be a mess, so it can be best to return on the mostly paved portion. Otherwise it loops back to near the start. Currently early 2023 there's a lot of ugly logging with many trees removed and some logging roads and bulldozer tracks. The electric company recently replaced some high voltage towers. As good as the view is from the overlook, there's bad land use on the other side of the river. Might be hunters in season. The pond is gone, so don't bother taking any fishing gear on the trail.
Great little trail! It took us about 2 hours to hike with 4 little kids. My only suggestion is that they add more blazes through the woods, because the leaves were down and it was a big hard to see the trail in some places. Also, the grassland trail needs to be trimmed a bit more. Otherwise, it was lovely. I'd do it again.
Said trail was 3 miles but it is probably closer to 5. The end of the trail was a little confusing as to where to go. Do not follow orange...as it will put you off trail. We had a lot of bugs swarm us the whole time. Horseflies, gnats, ticks...more than what we experience on other trails. No water in streams or pond. This place is great for butterflies and bugs though.
Great area for hiking. Nice 3mile round trip. Dogs are allowed on leash. Saw some people but not crowded.
I visit this park 2 or 3 times a year, usually as the seasons change. I either come to take pictures or to get a nice hike. For hiking I rate it 7 out of 10 or 9 out of 10 depending on which way you go. The park is will kept which is a plus. It has a cool lake/pond that tends to dry out be the end of summer. It is out of the way is both a blessing and a curse. The worst part of the park is the parking situation. The parking lot is rather small.
My favorite 2 mile trail in Eureka.
Great hill climbs and peaceful walk through the woods.
