A very dear friend passed away suddenly and the family chose to have the funeral at his grandmother's church. While I believe the congregation had their hearts in the right place volunteering their time and effort to serving food, cooking, setting up, the deacon who sang, God bless them for it I cannot say the same for the pastor. What should have been a eulogy that provided some semblance of comfort, was tainted by a five minute speech I timed it on how much this church had done for the family over the years and so on. There were two sentences spoken about someone I considered a brother, and anything poignant after his self promoting speech fell on deaf ears to quite a few of us. We left with no sense of peace or comfort. This vain, prideful act by the pastor has determined that my wife and I who are seeking a church home will not be returning to visit for a service and shows me where his heart is. I'd sincerely like to know what all that and the "beautiful architecture of the church" had to do with my friend or God. Matthew 6:1 "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven."
Mt.Zion Baptist Church is a great place to worship God & Jesus. Dr. Kevin Moore is a dynamic preacher of the Bible. He makes scriptures understandable & meaningful. The ministry staff is very helpful & friendly as is Dr. Kevin Moore. There are Sunday School classes for the young children. The sanctuary is structured for safe distances. You will get a real BLESSING by attending My. Zion Baptist Church!!!
I would not recommend Mt Zion weekday preschool. I think the staff is friendly but lack in the area of working with toddlers . Lack of experience and teaching. The 2 yr old teachers in one particular classroom one particular teacher , could use a break from children . A child’s first experience should not be a bad experience . If a child has been solely at home with their parents . The expectancy of a new environment, with new people can be frighten . Crying is to be expected and normal . No effort of soothing the child was offered . Only for the child to be picked up less than an hour of arrival to go home for the day . My only regret is that my toddler had to experience this as a first time away from home. We made a smart decision by removing our child from this school . Definitely would not recommend this school unfortunate. Me and my husband is very please with our decision
This is a wonderful church for all age groups - families and children and for singles and married couples It's a caring place and there are very knowledgeable pastors and staff. A lot of love comes out of this church home. If you don't like a mission centered, ethnically diverse church, this isn't the home for you. But of you support missions and people of all walks of life, come join us!
If you are looking for quality expository preaching in the Madison area, which is a rare commodity, Mt. Zion is the place to find it. We found the members here to be friendly but not to the point of being annoying. The facilities are top notch and the music is very well done. I wish there were more parking but when you've got a good thing going, which they obviously do, you're often going to have to deal with the influx of people. Thanks, Dr. Kevin Moore and the people of Mt. Zion, for a wonderful worship experience.
About 5 years ago before I went to college I had visited Mount Zion Baptist church with my friends. I had enjoyed the sermon given by the pastor that Sunday and had decided I would come back and slowly transition into making this church my home. The following Sunday I was sitting far up in the sanctuary with my friends who had invited me the week prior. We had gone out to eat to McDonald’s that morning and one of my friends had brought in his soda into the sanctuary and put it under his seat. About halfway through the sermon, he accidentally kicked his drink over towards the rows below us. He was in a panic and I immediately took my flannel button up off to put on top of the spill. He thanked me and I told him it was no big deal. As soon as we had exchanged those few words, the pastor points to me in front of everybody and says that he will not continue his sermon until the young man up top stops being disrespectful and starts paying attention to him. Everyone in that sanctuary turned and looked at me and my face got bloodshot and I started to tear up. I was embarrassed and never wanted to go back to that church again. Needless to say I never went back. I did not go back to a Church for three years after this experience. This experience had soured my opinion and turned me off from going to church for years. Luckily I was able to get past this emberassing moment and with some persuading by friends I had started to go to a church down in Auburn. I think about this moment almost every night before I pray and wonder why the pastor felt it was necessary to say something in front of the whole congregation. I wonder if he is a pastor for the right reasons or the wrong reasons. I often wonder what made him say that to me that Sunday. Was it a burst of rage or was it something else that caused him to say that to me. In hindsight, I am glad this happened to me. I was about to join a church where The pastor would preach one thing and do another. I do not recommend this church, the pastor that day had made an assumption of what he had seen and embarrassed me and called me out without having all of the facts. He preaches one thing and does another. I believe my experience proves the above statement.
The toddlers/ 2 year old teachers leave much to be desired. They’re rude and lazy individuals that clearly couldn’t cut it in a real classroom setting. Be very observant if youre desperate enough to place your child in their care.
Mount Zion is an excellent church, my 10-year-old's sunday school teacher is very nice and extraordinary. I would recommend Mount Zion Church to anyone I see!
We visited here years ago and liked it but decided to join elsewhere. We've been back lately and will likely pick it as our church home. In the interim they have switched from a traditional to a contemporary style service.
Outstanding hospitality. Witness a strongly knitted together congregation with an awesome Pastor. I admonish everyone to experience true genuine and love filled fellowship.
