New Orleans West KOA

Description

This KOA makes the Big Easy, well, easy! It's the closest KOA to the French Quarter and the finest food, sassiest jazz and wildest times in the South. It's a great place to recharge or use Wi-Fi in a serene setting with trees, concrete pads and grass. Catch the shuttle or city buses to sample the piquant pleasures of real Cajun cooking or the one-of-a-kind charms of the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. Bike or hike the trail on the Mississippi levee. Saunter the famous riverbanks and watch the paddle wheelers ferry back and forth like in times gone by. Visit the world-class Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and The National WWII Museum. Let KOA's staff arrange swamp airboat trips or tours to nearby attractions such as plantations, cemeteries and casinos. Pets welcome!

Easy, clean, convenient, and quiet! About 30 mins from downtown + the French quarter with traffic on Friday and Saturday evening. We got a very nice, shady spot in the back row and enjoyed our neighbors. The pool area is clean and there's a nice playground for families. Laundry is very reasonable at $2.50 per w/d, or $4.50 per w/d for incredibly new washers. Basic, but everything you need. We would definitely return if we come back to the NOLA area.
This KOA was not as quiet as most we have stayed at dogs barking, folks playing music, etc. Nice laundry room. Staff were very welcoming when we arrived. Since they say GPS doesn't work for their address, some hints would be helpful as New Orleans isn't a particularly easy city to navigate in an RV. We put a location nearby into Google and that worked. This KOA did recommend a great shuttle service, Trey Transport.
It served the purpose for our stay. It was clean, quiet and the employees were friendly. The gentleman who helped us back our RV in was amazing for sure. With that being said I have stayed at many KOA's and I have yet to be impressed for what I pay to stay, and this KOA isn't any different than the rest. I will still use KOA again when I need to, but there are so many better campgrounds out there with better prices that have nicer less crowded sites.
We have stayed at this KOA many times since moving from New Orleans. In the past it was a wonderful place to stay with and efficient, caring staff. HOWEVER, the park has been sold to new owners and they are not efficient nor pleasant to deal with. We had reservations we have the original confirmation print out but the park got the arrival and departure dates wrong on their computer! They called us and said we had not arrived as scheduled and threatened to cancel our reservation. Upon arrival we took our copy of the reservations with arrival date and departure date to the office and thought that they had straightened out their records. However, my husband was walking the dog and one of the workers said "You are supposed to be out of here. You had better get to the office and straighten it out!" They threatened us with a charge for an "extra day!" We straightened out the mess again since they had not corrected their computer's incorrect dates after the first report but have second thoughts about staying here again due to their incompetence.
We began camping in the summer of 2020 due to the pandemic. We bought a 15 foot, teardrop camper and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience having travelled across Canada 3 times and now to the southern US. Although I've heard of KOA since I was a kid, KOA Holiday in New Orleans was my first booking. The closeness to the French Quarter was the main reason. The website made it sound like a "resort". The cost for our 5 nights was almost three times 3X the price of nearby camping but we decided to splurge because of the closeness to downtown and our perceived reputation of KOA. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The laundry was OK. That's it for positive comments. We did not sleep well for five nights. There was the noise of airplanes from early evening until about 1AM. There were the bright parking lot lights on all night. I guess they need to be on for security, but there was a guard, so do all of the lights have to be full on, all night? And we a had a neighbor with 2 dogs, barking at 4 and 6AM and he'd get up and take them out and slam his camper door. But byfar the WORST was the noise from trains. Beginning around 9PM and going ALL NIGHT you could hear loud trains rolling. And they would blow their horns, on average every two hours, ALL NIGHT. On our last night there was long, extended train horn blowing at 11, 12, 2, 3:30, 4:30, and 6 AM. This was truly one of the worst camping experiences we've ever had! The grounds looked run down with a corrugated metal fence and the road was cracked, uneven and bumpy. That, plus the very high price $394US for 5 nights, has assured that we will avoid KOA wherever possible. My advice to fellow campers is, if you want a place close to the French Quarter approx 30 min drive - public transit about 90min and stops around 9pm so... useless , stay there but take good ear plugs and an eye mask or black out curtains if you plan on sleeping. I think KOA should "own up" and honestly warn customers about the noise. And lower the price. I just noticed other reviews similar to mine that are 3 years old! I guess this place will never change. Wish I would have read them beforehand. Then again I might have assumed things had improved...
We were booked through Thanksgiving and stayed 2 extra days. The owners hosted a potluck for Thanksgiving that was wonderful. Didn't miss being at home and I didn't have to cook except the one dish win win! Great location for seeing new orleans, drove in just about every day. High level of security and well cared for grounds. Only complaint was wifi was difficult to connect and stay connected to.
This is a pretty nice KOA and family friendly! There is a pool ‍ and a playground right up front and a K9 Kamp park off on the side of the park! There are 6 individual showers with their own door and lock. Also male and female bathrooms with 4 toilets in the female bathroom. They could use some work but they are nice! It’s only 20 mins from downtown where the French quarter is and there are plenty of places to park down town. The cheapest is at 501 Basin St $10 for 10 hours but one of the workers at the KOA said one of the people there had their truck broken into but our car was fine when we parked there. All the spots are back in. Laundry is $1.50 to wash and $1.00 to dry Not too bad of a price, would stay here again. when it rains the red ants come out!! I got bit all over my ankle before the guy was like watch out it rained and the red ants come out lol!
We stayed here in our 2020 class A motorhome. 38.5 feet long with a toad vehicle behind us coming in at about 50 feet total length.. The customer service and helpfulness at this particular KOA is top notch… Have been to 3 other KOA’s in other states and this particular one in River Ridge area was hands down the most user friendly and pleasant campground experience yet from a KOA… security at night was a plus and we felt very secure with plenty of lighting throughout as well. We will return here for any and all New Orleans activities in the future
I had reservations and for some reason the payment did not go through, even though I had the money in the bank. For two weeks while I was working and traveling in Louisiana the money was pending and unavailable to me. I was stuck staying in my car instead of the pleasant camping trip I had packed for, planned and paid forpending. I don't know why this happened, but I will not trust them as my place to stay in the future.
Where do I start? The 1 star is for the staff, they were decent …..but they parked me right under an acorn tree that constantly drops acorns on our roof. The dogs are unattended and bark constantly. And the freight trains that go by are like a scene out of my cousin Vinny, horns just blaring at all hours. Sorry just won’t be back.
