Museum, located in East Grand Forks, MN dedicated to the history of railroads in the Red River Valley and the hobby of model railroading.
Originally established in the 1980s as a model railroading club, the Northern Lights Railroad Museum expanded its mission to preserve and interpret railroad history of the Northern Great Plains. The organization relocated to its current location in East Grand Forks after the Flood of 1997.
The museum contains several small exhibits related to the history of the railroad in the area, pictures and artwork of locomotives and trains, N and HO scale layouts, and a genuine Great Northern Railway caboose currently under restoration.
Our mission is to educate the public about the importance of railroads in the history of our nation and particularly the upper Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota, as well as the hobby of scale model railroads.
