Great library; they have a great kids section, a dedicated YA/teen section, its own dedicated manga and graphic novel section, and a great section for adult non-fiction and fiction. They also have a local history room, computer labs, and study rooms you can reserve. They also sell used books here and you can also rent DVDs. They are also one of the few places in Panama City to openly support the LGBTQ community; they sometimes have pride displays and events hosted here. It makes me feel seen in a predominantly homophobic town. They also support the neurodivergent community and actually listen to the voices of autistic people instead of the stereotypical “anti-vax autism mommies”- a rare right in northwest Florida. I love the autism acceptance displays! Much love from an actually autistic, queer woman who lived in the area. They also host lots of free, local community events, especially for the kids and teens in the area. The staff is very nice; I live in Michigan now and emailed one of the local librarians here asking for old newspaper articles and photos of the Parker sports complex and she was kind and responded promptly with what I asked for. I am very grateful. I loved coming here as a kid and I loved coming as an adult.
Walking into Bay County Public Library is like walking into a piece of "heaven". You are greeted with warm welcomes and smiles every time. You can always find someone when you need assistance. Everyone gives you their undivided attention, even when they are working on something else. They stop what they are doing and assist you promptly. I have visited more times than I have fingers and plan to continue going. For someone like me who recognizes energy, loves an abundance of resources Yeah! The resources on gardening is HUGE!!, and desires tranquility all under one roof, Bay County Public Library is the best place to visit. Thank you all for making Bay County Public Library a "Safe Haven". You are very much appreciated. ...
Very nice building and staff. Books easy to find. Don't like it that the size of this building they don't have every book of a series. I know small places can't.
10 mins before closing, had an employee Michael Harris threaten me that he "was going to do something" if another employee Ashley Bailey didnt step in and talk to me. I literally had 2 min left on my online lecture and was in the process of leaving. I dont know how Michael Harris got a job working in a public library or with the county addressing people this way or making personal threats. Below is the photo of the time I pulled out of the parking lot. Not like I kept these folks from closing up early.
The social distancing is not used and patrons in the area will step into your face. Being close is not considered disrespectful or a problem. The fatalities of Coronavirus-19 ARE a problem. Nor is it considered against the rules to have social conversations the entire 50% of the library hears it, for over 20 minutes the entire day.
We’re so lucky to have a community library that works so hard to engage with our children! My kids have grown up at all the various programs and at 20 & 11, they are voracious readers! The 10 year old had been involved in book babies, then preschool story times, then elementary school summer programs, now taking the free ukulele lesson program and whizzing through the books he checks out each week! We’ve enjoyed concerts and art exhibits here and always love to say hi to our favorite people- the librarians! Thanks so much for making our community so much brighter!
This is probably the best library in the entire panhandle, especially for young kids. The parking lot is a little strange since it kind of shares some space with court houses but It’s clean, spacious, and has plenty of fun learning areas. They have a small second- hand bookstore that is a real hidden gem. Highly recommended.
I have lived here 13 years and it's my first time coming in here. I came here looking for a book I am having a hard time finding. The facility exceeded my expectations and the staff was very helpful. If you have never been here, you should check it out. It's a great asset to the city.
Love the library, they are so helpful and polite. Enjoy the fresh air and the cleaning of how the facility is kept
The Bay County public library is amazing! A nice quiet place to think, read, or do research on the computers. I've been going to the library here in Panama City ever since I was a kid, I'll be 32 this year! The new library has expanded and is a great place for all ages! It's in a beautiful building too, but I must admit, I still miss the elevator and the koi pond at the old library. Which were two of the coolest things when I was younger! The staff there is also very helpful with any questions you may have, very informative and knowledgeable on many topics of not all, and will even show you the correct way to do things if you happen to run into computer troubles of any kind. The only thing I didn't like was the time frame before you had to log back on the computer as either a guest or a patron someone with a library card. The time allotment Is only 15mins on some computers, I think they should bump that account up to atleast 20-30mins pretty computer. All in all, I had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend it to others in the future!!!
