I really want to share my experience at The NOW Spa, and honestly, it was a big letdown. I had booked an 80-minute prenatal massage, thinking it would be a great way to unwind and feel better. But what actually happened during the session was extremely disappointing. The therapist, who was nice but totally inexperienced in prenatal massage, didn't do a good job at all. Right from the start, it was obvious that the therapist wasn't confident in what he was doing. He clearly didn’t know how to do a prenatal massage and was scared of touching me, which made the whole thing very awkward. He only used his fingertips, and it didn't feel like he was actually massaging my muscles. While I understand the guidelines of light pressure for a pregnant woman, this “light touch with the tip of his fingers” seemed more like a joke, that was giving me more frustration than relaxation. I tried to tell him a couple times, but he really seemed so scared to touch me and told me that I was a delicate flower and should be treated like so. To which I responded that I was not and would appreciate a little more pressure. But the pressure was not the only issue unfortunately. He mostly focused on my upper back and didn't even touch my middle or lower back. On my legs, he only worked on my calves and didn't pay any attention to my thighs, knees, or the front part of my lower legs. At all. The whole lack of technique, using short back-and-forth movements was also very frustrating. I thought about leaving the massage early, but I stayed because he was friendly. Looking back, I wish I had left and not wasted my time. The front desk did offer a discount but that didn't really make up for how disappointing the whole experience was. I was really looking forward to a soothing massage, but it turned out to be the opposite. I ended up paying $125 for this massage, and honestly, this was a total waste of money and time. I tried to reach out to the manager through email to explain what happened, but I never got a response. It left me feeling like they didn't really care about their customers. Considering how things went, I really can't recommend going to The NOW Spa. They let someone who wasn't properly trained give me a specialized massage he was so afraid to do. And the fact that the manager didn't even bother getting back to me just ads to this whole negative experience. I wish I had spent my money elsewhere and spent the time to write this review to help you not making the same mistake.
I must admit, I had high hopes for Now Massage after my first visit. Unfortunately, my third experience left me deeply unsatisfied and frustrated. It's disheartening to see such a decline in service. During my session, it was immediately apparent that something was off. The therapist's hands were trembling throughout the entire massage, which made it impossible for me to relax. Instead of feeling rejuvenated and de-stressed, I left the session feeling even tenser than when I arrived. It was as if I was being massaged by a complete amateur. To make matters worse, at the end of the session, I kindly notified the front desk that I had left a cash tip for their service. However, to my shock and disappointment, when I checked my bill, I discovered that I had been charged an additional $20 for a tip. This was an egregious oversight and an absolute breach of trust. I had every intention of tipping my therapist for their hard work, but being charged extra without my consent is unacceptable. This third visit to Now Massage has left a bitter taste in my mouth, and I'm deeply unsatisfied with the entire experience. It's a shame to see a place that showed such promise in the beginning fail to deliver on its basic promises of quality service and fair billing practices. I'll be taking my business elsewhere in the future, and I urge others to think twice before booking a massage at Now Massage. It's clear that their standards have plummeted, and their integrity is questionable at best.
I had an absolutely amazing experience at The Now. My friends were talking about how much they love it so I knew it was going to be great. I got the Now 60 with deep tissue, gua sha, and hemp calm balm enhancements. Before my massage, my therapist reviewed which areas we were focusing on, and then throughout the massage my therapist checked in on pressure and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. I would highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for a high quality massage that’s still affordable. I really hope they open in NYC soon!
Update as of 10/10/23: it’s been a week and a half and I haven’t received a call or follow up as indicated by the NOW. I made a 25 min appt all that was available as my inquiry was last minute. I was hesitant on having limited time, but figured it was better than nothing. I arrived 5 mins before, used the restroom, and then was asked to fill out forms, which was taking a few mins. I said this doesn’t come out of my time does it? And they confirmed that it did. I was not okay with that as I was already 5 mins into my 25 min massage time. I expressed my frustration and advised them to advise their clients to arrive X amount of time BEFORE the appt to take care of any XYZ. I should not have to lose time from my massage because of their lack of communication and transparency. I canceled my appt and seriously considering not returning to this location. Please reevaluate your business practices to ensure your clients have the best experience.
Got the 50 min massage + scalp treatment. I felt it was cut short so as I was getting dressed I checked my phone for the time and it had only been 40 min. I asked the front desk if I had indeed booked a 50 min massage because with the scalp treatment, It still didn’t add up. The front desk argued with me that my appointment was at 3:45 and I said no it was at 4pm. He kept arguing with me until I showed him my email confirmation. He was upset that he was proven wrong. Another employee came by to help and was actually able to verify my actual appointment time and offer me a 20% discount and did not charge for the scalp treatment. I came here to have a relaxing massage and relieve stress. Instead I was so angry about not only the masseuse Joseph cutting it short and wasn’t very friendly to begin with and then the front desk having an argument with me as if I offended him. He was also rude to his fellow employees too. White guy. Right side of the desk. As a business owner, I suggest to the owner if you’re reading this: He should not be working in an environment where people pay to relax. Never coming here again.
I did the 50 min membership and am cancelling after just a couple months. I would rather pay more or drive further than continue going here. Extremely bummed I have to pay for one more month after canceling because they require 30 days. Really uncomfortable prenatal massages. They are on your side no belly wedge I asked and I often leave feeling more shoulder pain than when I went in because of how the side prenatal massage is. A massage should not be uncomfortable. My online sign in didn’t work. I called multiple times. They finally fixed it. I’ve made online appts and then they text me the day of that it’s not available and have to cancel. When I signed up, I was told I could use multiple 50 min credits my monthly membership towards the 80 minute massages and prenatal add on services. Nope I can only use one 50 minute credit because they’re still working on how to set up “fractional credits for add on services”. Finally today I texted them to ask them to book something for my husband because he’s experiencing severe back pain. They said they had a 25 minute available. I texted them multiple times asking them to book it, how much it was, and if I needed to call in. Less than an hour later I called in and they said it was no longer available
Received a really bad massage here and the only thing management could do was offer 50% off my next massage. Why would I pay to come back after having a Poor experience? Bad customer service. They clearly don’t care about their clients.
We really love The Now and usually treat ourselves to massages here once a quarter or every other month. The CBD add on is well worth the money and prices overall are so reasonable. One note though is that if you get Oscar as your therapist, he tends to do more of a style of massage that’s really hard on your tensed up spots. So if you want more of a relaxing massage with not a lot of pressure, request another therapist.
Massage involves a lot of harsh elbow use. Also they will not give you your full allotted time. I tried emailing them about my experience and never heard back.
They are trying to be trendy in order to be able to charge more money. However there is not much difference from them to a regular massage. The practitioner did not listen when I asked for less pressure and it ended up not being a relaxing experience. The practitioner decided that it would be more healing if painful pressure was applied. Won’t be going back.
