Saw a neurosurgeon for therasic outlet. Very kind to the time to explain and review and request records for full picture, had female In room and student which I was good with. Clean room with education material. Asked me personaly what started and wear symptoms existed and did exam in person. Waiting area has child place and positive experience as well.. was spose to see a practitioner but saw sergeon to. Good experience and hope for help down the road if needed for my pain. They validate parking in parking garage across street use elevators to get to buildings and garage.
This facility will say they care but at the end of the day, they don't. They will do tests and labs and take your money, and then ignore you while you struggle every day. Don't go here if you actually want to be cared about and helped. I first went to this facility in 2019 after being referred by my optometrist because my cornea was swollen and they could not figure out why. I had also visited my lady doctor for other issues and was told to talk to a neurologist by them as well. My first visit went well, the doctor assured me that I was cared about and she would help me. I was sent for an MRI and was told that I have a pituitary tumor generally benign and don't cause issues but could be the cause of the headaches and the swollen cornea but no other major issues and to come back in 6 months to a year for another MRI. Fast forward to 2023 and I am having a lot more issues, my PCP believes that the tumor is secreting cortisol and prolactin, causing the issues. She sends me back to OHSU neurosurgery to have the tumor removed. I attend my first appointment in person and the doctor told me I was cared about and she would not let me just go high and dry like last time. That she cared that I get better and she would help me solve the problem. She feared Cushing's on top of the tumor. She sent me for another MRI, a bunch of blood work, and a urine analysis. Days later, I got a call that a different doctor would like to go over the results over a video call. On the video call I was told that some of my results were high or abnormal, or even just the high end of normal. For example if normal was 15-281 I was at 281. She had me do another test that required a pill and an 8am blood draw downtown. I asked about the tumor and next steps, she told me surgery was usually the go-to for that and we would look in to that later. I completed the test and waited about a week with no word. I called the office and asked if I needed to schedule an appointment like the first time. I was told that the doctor had not seen my results yet but would contact me when she did. About another week goes by and I get a very generic message in MyChart from the doctor that the result was normal and to have a nice day I am summarizing but this was the gist. I sent back a plea begging to help me and not leave me without an answer or help, reminding her of her promise to help, and listing my symptoms which she already knew about, both doctors do from daily headaches to lactation even though I have not breastfed in over a decade, and lots more. Asking about surgery and the reason my PCP sent me here. Doctor read the message and then didn't respond, just ignored me. I called the office after a week and asked to speak to the doctor. Was told I cannot talk to the doctor but the receptionist would pass on a message. Another week goes by and no word, so I call again and ask to just make an appointment, maybe if I am in the office they wont ignore me. I am told that I cannot make an appointment unless the doctor allows it but another message would be passed along. I wait another few days and call the office again, I am told that the receptionist cant help but she would send me to the office manager. I left a VM for the office manager and got a MyChart message the next day that they would look in to things. A couple of days later I get a phone call from an assistant who reads me a message from the doctor that pretty much says that I don't have Cushing's but they want to redo the tests in 6 months. I asked about the tumor and the daily struggles and begged for help, he said he cant help but he would go back to the doctor and talk to her. Doctor didn't even address the tumor or issues I was having in her message. Same person calls me the next day and reads another message from the doctor with pretty much the same message as last time; they care but are not going to be of further help right now, to make an appointment for December to repeat the tests. These "doctors" only care about money and once they have yours, you no longer matter and will be ignored.
3 months behind on processing referrals plus - I don’t know if anyone else has noticed how incredibly dismissive and snotty the receptionist are in general at OHSU regardless of how sweet and kind, I am on the phone, I tend to come across multiple snotty, dismissive staff members. Very rude and unnecessary. In the future, I will be taking down the names and posting them here and giving credit to the ones who are still doing their job in a professional courteous customer service one would expect from the hospital the prides themselves in excellence.
Surgery was done well. I can’t get his office to call back, I have to call at least twice a week because of the gross lack of communication! The nurses didn’t listen to me about my increased pain and lowered my pain meds without telling me I told them to call me, now I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place and I can’t bend or twist my back for 3-4 more weeks! I’m in so much pain and I’m being treated like I’m addicted to pills! GO TO ANOTHER NEUROSURGEON!!!! I wish I could have.
You could not have a better Doctor to operate on your back. This man saved my wife, we thought she was going to be paralyzed. But we are have truly blessed to meet this wonderful man and Doctor. Did I say he was good or what. None better.
I would not recommend having surgery here. The department here stays afloat only because of the name and that it’s the most advanced hospital in Oregon. The surgeons need better oversight and the administrative staff needs an overhaul from the top down. I trusted my Neurology team but after my interactions with the Surgical Dept I decided to seek care elsewhere.
Worked with Dr Fleseriu today, and she was just amazing. Took time to ask me my concerns, actually listened to me and took plenty of time to explain HER concerns and our course of action. I was very nervous for today’s appt but she makes you feel very welcome off the bat. Highly recommend, I feel like I really lucked out being scheduled with her today.
Dr. Burchiel is a wonderful doctor and a great surgeon I would not want anyone else to operate on me but him. He has done two brain surgeries which has decreased my seizures a lot and two vns surgeries this last vns surgery I have been seizure free ever since. He is a great man a great doctor and cares and loves his patients
I should never, feel pressured, nor should anybody to do something they feel uncomfortable with especially if it is a conflict of interest! I've recently had knee surgery and to have back to back appointments one a week long stay in the EEG monitoring unit which I've done before, and to also have a knee appointment that same week obviously wouldn't work! Sombody messed up, the way the staff handled it was less than professional. Never been to a hospital too eager to redo a surgery after I said no more opening up the skull! It was just a few years ago when I got the all clear. Change my meds and things fall apart. I'm not a neurologist, but I've studied Epilepsy enough to know when things are not right. I'd feel much more reassured to get gbe told to get a second opinion, as surgery contradicts what I was told at UCSF. Also unwise to bring up someone's wife, girlfriend while trying to talk the patient into the week long EEG maybe she's busy, or out oftown or something else. Point is I've been through this reserched, what a second surgery would look like pros, and cons. Been there done that really disliked the pressure, especially when all they had to look at was see that there was a scheduling conflict ! The 3 stars is only because this current neurologist seemed to be open to helping, but I'm wondering if I need to look around?
Dr. Ragel truly gave me my life back. I had a sever spinal injury no one thought I was going to get full function back. I got it! Dr. Ragel went above and beyond. As a CNA my back is my life and I am beyond amazed the level of function I have after my injury. Thank you dr. Ragel!
