Openbar Houston

I went here with high expectations since the newly remodeled, newly managed bar looked posh and upscale when I walked in. I sat at my table for about 15 minutes listening to the music and observing the handful of patrons in attendance. Since it was after 11pm I was surprised at the near-empty bar. Finally one of the owners came over, introduced herself, and informed me the bar had only been open for 19 days and then apologized in advance for not having a bar staff as "no one showed up." Surprised, since it was a Friday night and the bar hadn't even been open a month, I asked, "Why didn't anyone show up?" She responded with a peculiar answer about it being the day after payday and..."you know how that goes." Frankly I wasn't and mentioned that she may need to take another look at her staff if no one showed up on a Friday night which is most bartender's bread and butter. She agreed. She admitted to not being skilled in making drinks so after I requested a Long Island and saw her eyes glaze over with confusion I then opted for a cranberry vodka. Her first attempt wasn't great. For $9 which is rather steep for a simple cocktail prepared for me in a small brandy glass it was more cranberry cocktail than anything else. She did add a bit more alcohol to it and although it wasn't a vast improvement, I politely thanked her. She was pleasant and attentive throughout the night but I chose not to order another drink once I was aware that there wasn't a bartender on duty. The music was a nice variety. The DJ was adept at mixing, although at times appeared to cater to one particular patron with an affinity for heavy metal and some hybrid of bluegrass electronica. I think because the bar was nearly empty the patron and his guest didn't see any issue with tipping the DJ to play their genre while they danced in a bizarre manner around the floor. It was entertaining, but at times bordered on annoying. Overall Open Bar has a real chance at being a successful bar. The remodel is terrific, the location is superb, the music is eclectic, but the marketing efforts need to be heavily increased, and the drink prices should be revisited in order to be competitive in that area. This is a undiscovered jewel in Houston! I enjoy coming here a great place to throw a event, drink party and chill! They have amazing Wings, games pool, Hookah, drink s are amazing! Its newly opened but they have party specials for events and have shows and comedy! Come here to hang or be with your freinds to have a great time! I love this place! Great Staff!

In my GF's neighborhood...thought we'd get out and have a few drinks... Hit with a $5 charge to park in an open parking lot...at 11PM there were only about 8 or so ppl in the place and the music was so loud you couldn't even hear the bartender explain that she didn't even know what kind of wine they had to sell...don't waste your time!

Nice spacious atmosopher with affordable drinks and good place to hear African Caribbean music. While enjoying some good suya.

The place is nice on the inside they shouldn't be charging people for parking and the drinks are expensive

Food was amazing and music was good. Drinks also were moderately priced and ambience was chilled.

Drinks are overpriced ... I have been to your clubs and it’s never been 5 dollars on Friday and Saturday.. you might need to have that checked out

I am trying to figure out why everyone is saying your drinks are expensive if they are only $5? Is that just advertisement or are your drinks really only $5?

Love the wings and customer service and the atmosphere is awesome n relaxing
