Very grateful for the Pacific Symphony. My parents met in this orchestra and were together for 30+ years. I have enjoyed countless concerts growing up, sounds of violins, and conducting by Carl. St. Clair.
5 stars, great musicians and professional atmosphere and enjoyment. I’ve enjoyed so many fabulous concerts of Mahler, Beethoven, Pops series, and more.
Sound handler is terrible. They must be deaf. They overdrive the speakers causing so much distortion you can't understand the singers words or hear the subtleties of the orchestra. The high end is amplified so much the treble buzz is all you hear. An incompetent sound crew bringing down an otherwise accomplished orchestra. Not worth the money. Don't go until they get a better team.
Considering that I "brake" for Mozart's "Requiem," having seen and heard it many times, I have to say that Sunday's Feb. 3, 2013 performance by the Pacific Symphony and Pacific Chorale at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Orange County simply took my breath away. The acoustics in the hall are outstanding, the orchestra flawless, and the Chorale beyond exquisite. Two days later, the aura is still with me. Bravo Carl St. Clair and John Alexander and all the amazing members of your organizations!
Disappointing. Programming was boring and the performance was lackluster, almost as if the musicians were merely phoning it in and giving their bare minimum in order to collect their meager paychecks. This is NOT the great orchestra it was in the 1990s, Carl St.Clair's early years. I attribute that to management's incompetence, ignorance and lack of vision. The PSO Board made a huge mistake in hiring its current President, who is responsible for steering the orchestra along the right path. Those who rated the PSO with five stars simply do not know the PSO I remember. If they did, they, too would have given this rank pickup band a much lower rating. Never again.
How to ruin and otherwise excellent evening of fine music? Add silly cartoons that disturb, annoy and distract from the music. After a delightful interpretation of Debussy's Daphne and Cloe, and an incomparable Pinchas Zukerman rendition of Mozart's 3rd violin concert, came the disaster. The magestic Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky-Ravel, very well played by the PSO was completely ruined by cartoons of popping eggs, dancing chicken littles, wide open eyes completed with fireworks, that protected on a large screen was impossible to ignore. That nonsense made people talk, comment and laught and as a consequence, distract from the music. If I want a show, I go to the Hollywood Bowl to eat, drink and have fun, or to Lollapalooza or watch Disney's Fantasia again. Let us hope that this innovation was just a joke, a bag one indeed, but will not become a trend. The PSO has become a first class orchestra and plays very well. It needs no guimicks and no illconceived new ideas that do not work. This was worse than a crime against music, it was a mistake Talleyrand
An exceptional and professional performance venue which regularly offers world class performances by its resident orchestra- the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Carl St. Clair.
Orange County's own "pops" symphony. They play all of your favorite classics.
It was a great night celebrating Nowruz
