Good place for study but you guys need to work on the study rooms they way you send people out is definitely not professional! And absolutely rude. Other than that everything else is good I love being there and the lady at the reference desk skinny tall with glasses she’s good at her job.. good customer service.. communication skills.. and she’s definitely not bias. I love dealing with her.
Helpful staff, great seasonal librarian picks on the shelf at the far end of the main lobby, and a space that feels alive, bright, airy, and welcoming. The bulletin board at the entrance is worth checking out. It seems there is always something interesting going on. Some programs are virtual so attending from home can be an option. I love how libraries in the region share resources. I can reserve a book on line and pickup/drop off at the most convenient library. Having a "Library of Things" is a wonderful recent trend. I'm glad Dracut has items to lend. If you need a restroom, borrow the key from the circulation desk. Libraries are supportive magical places for me. However, I am white, older, and don't require much help. Reading all the reviews from other patrons I am saddened that so many have had bad experiences in recent months. Perhaps some cultural sensitivity training might help. Perhaps something like a "Please DO NOT DISTURB - Testing in progress." door hanger could be offered when a meeting room is reserved. When a child on the spectrum is visiting and loud, perhaps the doors between the children's area and the rest of the library could be closed many years ago, my now college age kiddo needed a similar accommodation at another Library. You wouldn't be upset about a patron who uses a wheelchair not being able to walk, so why expect a kiddo on the spectrum to behave as a neurotypical kiddo of the same calendar age? I hope my review is seen as constructive. I mean no ill will to anyone.
Christine is amazing. Super helpful, professional and respectful! Thank you!
I have booked the reading room and this is not the first time to extend to an hour due to the exam. In the middle of a proctor exam, one of the librarian "one skinny tall female" opened the door and asked me to packed my things and leave. The examiner saw her and heard her voice. The exam was terminated. I had to paid to retake it. I requested to speak to the manager and she spoke in favor of her and pretended to be sorry. I don't know if it is racism. Before asking someone to leave the reading room, check the reservation ending time. I was scheduled to leave at 11:30 am and she came in at 10:25 am. If she is not sure of what she is doing, I suggest she get more education and figured out where she belongs. It is an awful experience. I wish the manager could opt to talk to her about checking the booking scheduled before sending someone out of the room. She started to blamed the newly hired for extending the time, forgetting to know that she did give it to me for 3hrs.
The children's room is amazing. My son loves going there to play with the toys, and the monthly scavenger hunt is really fun for him! Us adults appreciate the programming for children and adults, and the library of things that are available to borrow!
Everyone here is always friendly and willing to help. There is always a computer available when I need it and it's always clean. They have tax booklets for those that need to file via paper and they gave plenty of great books. Plenty of parking as well.
Super disappointed in Dracut library. My son was in the kids section of the library with TWO of his therapist. One from Anne Sullivan for developmental and the other from Building Blocks. First the librarian comes up and doesn’t want My son using a certain train on any of the tables besides the specific table for the trains. Which is fine no he wasn’t playing rough so an hour goes by we’re getting wrapped up with his therapist and librarian comes BACK up to us and says we need to keep it down it’s a library and she shouldn’t be hearing our conversation. Let’s talk about the fact for one my son was around TWO therapist who specialize in behavioral acts for kids especially kids with autism so they know the appropriate and not appropriate way for a child to act in a setting of that manner. Let’s also talk about the fact that she was standing right behind us when she “could hear our personal conversation” that pertained to my son joining an day group to help him start to understand the structure of a class setting. Needless to say I will NEVER be coming back to this library even if it’s right down the street from my home. Super unprofessional and clearly she lacks the patience of being in the CHILDREN’S section of the library. I’m also the first to admit mine or my sons mess ups but clearly this lady just had it out for us from the beginning. It’s sickening they have someone like that working in the children’s section of a library. Also this place claims to “supports kids with autism” clearly that’s not the case.
Extremely poor treatment of patrons...all the way to the library director Nanci Malone-Hill. It's clearly systemic and the poor treatment identified by other reviewers is modeled by the director herself. After many years of using this library there was an issue with my card. Books I checked out were put on an account I had 15 years ago and was unaware still existed. When I didn't get my usual reminder email to return the books and couldn't see them in my account to renew online, I called the library to see what happened. The person on the phone was extremely condescending and abrupt. I ended that phone call stating I would think about what I wanted to do next. Several hours later that same staff person called me back at my home and informed me she was shutting down my current account. She again was rude, abrupt, and acted like an angry bill collector FYI the amount in question is $38 which I never asked to be forgiven or said I wouldn't pay. I then wrote an email to the director of the library, Nanci Malone- Hill, about inappropriate staff behavior and that they closed an account that was not Dracut's to close. I asked her to provide a phone number where I could speak with her about my concerns. Nanci refused to provide a phone number and sent a series of very confusing emails. When I indicated there was still a misunderstanding that a phone call might resolve, she sent a very rude response which I tried to attach which began with the line "The misunderstanding is yours." It ended with the line "I consider this conversation closed and wish you well." Despite this she kept sending combative emails of this nature and indicated the only way I could speak to her was to attend a library board meeting!! I attempted to have the inappropriate actions of a staff member addressed and got a refusal to speak and more poor behavior from the director herself. She never even understood that I hadn't requested anything about the $38 dollar fine..she just went to defensive and combative all on her own. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Dracut-- pay attention to these reviews and please do better.
I have never felt more disrespected in my life! I just moved to the area so I have not had a chance to change my address on my drivers license and all my bills are electronic, so when I tried to get a library card, the lady carol or Cheryl was so rude and told me that I couldn't have one. She wouldn't take my electric bill that I had online as proof of residence. This made me feel unwelcome to the community. I also voted not two days ago in the same parking lot. I felt so disrespected and unwanted I left crying. As a graduate student looking for a quiet place to study, I was excited to go- but I don't know if I will ever be back.
Shame. Moved nearby but talk of the town says don't even go here, that the library folk are rude. Looks like other google reviews also agree.
