Welcome Back O.G. Fish Burritos!! Last owner ruined it, Happy the Original Owner is back and making them Awesome like the Good Old Days!! Food: 5/5
Just dropped by to try their shrimp burrito. A little expensive at $14, but well worth it. Very tasty burrito with tons of succulent shrimp cooked to perfection. Just a great burrito and great service that's worth the price paid. Thank you Pepe's! Dietary restrictions: Called before I went and asked if they used lard in any of their items and they said NO, they use vegetable oil instead - Good for them! Parking: Pepe's has it's own small lot but there is available parking around the location.
The food here was amazing, so much so my Uber driver Dave recommended it. He was right. We were visiting the area from Kansas City, Missouri the larger one, not Kansas, and we returned several times during our visit. We noticed the locals were frequent visitors, so we knew we were on the right path.Food: 5/5
New management did not help make the food more tasty. Their meat lacks flavor and is so bland. I had high hopes since new management took over, but no luck. I guess I'll still keep driving right by it. Shame too, since I live so close. It's sad when Del Taco meat tastes better than a local place. It's not rocket science. Add some spices and bam! You'll have more customers.
It has been at least 15 years since I have eaten at this landmark. I live about 90 minutes away and grew up with PMF in my teens 30 years ago. My friends would show up here, wait in line happily, and devour the meals. When I ordered these two tacos in the pic, it was like stepping back in time. The Ensenada Fish taco was the same unique flavor like it was for me in 1993! Crazy good. The Asada taco was also good. The prices have gone up but that’s everywhere else too. The portions are decent for the price but it’s definitely more expensive than most places that I know for similar food. Get some tacos and go to the beach. Listen to the waves while you experience a taste of Ensenada here on Silver Strand.
I used to come here all of the time growing up and it was good, but times have changed! I stopped by today to grab some nachos and was extremely disappointed! $6 for small asada nachos. I don't mind paying for good food, but this was NOT good! They microwaved the nachos, so the chips were nice and stale. The toppings were not any better. Another customer was asking for little street tacos and was told they are $2 each that person just walked away aftet hearing the price. While I waited for them to finish microwaving my nacho I watched the flies crawling all over the inside of the glass Windows and couldn't help but wonder what else they were crawling on in there. Definately won't be back!
Pepe's is a go to Mexican Restaurant, when there is No Place else to go. From what I've gathered, the former owner was much more down to earth and a little less greedy! Raymond, although okay, does leave a little to be desired. Frankly, the food is Not that great either. If you try the tamale, prepare for a weird experience. The flavor was Not what I've come to expect from a tamale. Perhaps the masa mixture wasn't up to par today? Not really sure what happened, but it wasn't very pleasant. On to the fish taco. Looked great, tasted good, but why wasn't the fish crispy? It was deep fried, but perhaps this was a piece that wasn't recently cooked? Not sure. Raymond, get real with Your Prices, man. In addition, please check the masa mixture on your tamales. Lastly, when someone asks if the parking in front of your 'shack' is valid parking, Don't come at them and say, 'are you gonna buy anything?' Dude, you Do Not Own the Public Streets of Oxnard! Relax before you bust a vein. Would I try Pepe's again? Ehhh gotta give them another chance to redeem themselves, but Seriously, a lot has got to change!
It’s been a while since I’ve ate here!! But I’m glad I came today.. the food is back to what Mexican food should taste like!! The salsas are salsas!!
Awesome food. Glad they are open again. Totally hits the spot when you've been at the beach for a while.Food: 5/5
