Piccolo Piccolo is not your average Italian restaurant. Peter, the owner, and his cousin, Chef Aldo, do a great job executing iconic Italian dishes with a more modern flavor. The restaurant itself is quite small but don’t be discouraged from checking it out. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Peter is equal parts host, bartender and server. The service, provided by Linda and Peter, was five stars. Piccolo switches up their menu weekly so you’ll always get a new taste. Appetizers, entrees, deserts and drinks are all high quality. I will be returning and I recommend you do the same! Good drinks, great service, even better food!
After 35 years working in restaurants I feel qualified to give a review. I did not care much for the food. I ordered a veal dish that tasted like seafood because it was probably cooked in the same oil the side of potatoes had absolutely no seasoning to them nothing. And the wine by the bottle was highly overpriced. A $15 bottle of wine should not go for $62. The service also was below average I will not be returning.
We dined here many times and loved it. But the recent chef change took awhile to recover from. But they are busier now and we are looking forward to visiting again for dinner. We stopped in last night after a few month absence to find a new streamlined menu and had dessert which was an excellent cheesecake. A real gem in quite a distance to the center. Hard to find, but very good food to a reasonable price. The waiter was very nice and welcomed us friendly. Thje cheesecake was world class, from Europe!
Piccolo is where you want to be. Food is delicious, and service is great and personal. If you're tired of the garbage food they serve at every other Italian restaurant then give piccolo a try. We had baked clams, the lamb special, and seafood risotto. You could taste how delicious the cheese used in the risotto and on the clams was. The seafood was fresh and the sauce was tasty. I'd definitely recommend this place any day.
I was ABSOLUTELY appalled by the owner Peters arrogance, and rudeness. The service was awful . If you are hungry plan on eating a snack before you go ! The food was not fresh , and took over 45 mins to come out . My husband found not one , but 2 fruit flies drown in his salad dressing . Upon bringing this to the owners attention in a very quiet polite way , he became rude , angry and acted like it was our fault . Treated us as an unwelcome guest that was just an inconvenience to him . We will NEVER return here !
I'll preface this by saying I have only gone ONCE, so take this review with a grain of salt. My personal experience wasn't great - the waitress forgot my side order of spinach which I made great effort in mentioning was what I was excited about eating with my meal. Both the main dish and the spinach were not enjoyable for me. The pasta was undercooked, according to my mom - who also added, that she usually prefers her pasta al dente anyway, but this was practically crunchy. My friend Keith who joined us, on the other hand, LOVED it. Anyway, technically, it was a 2 star experience, but since Keith had a good plate, and I have only gone once and probably won't go again now, I'll bump it up to a 3.
My wife and I have been to Piccolo probably 15 times.....we've introduced 5 couples to the restaurant and I can honestly say that we have never been disappointed in anything we've had there. From the mozz / prosciutto / honey truffle oil appetizer to the osso buco entree to the grandma's cheesecake, it is all been delicious, with chef Aldo getting the credit for that. The atmosphere is intimate, like a comfortable neighborhood restaurant, and the owner, Peter, and staff, mostly Linda, make you feel very welcome and appreciated. There aren't a lot of tables and since it's getting more and more popular, it's best to make a reservation. It is a little pricey, but so isn't every other good restaurant around. If you're looking for inexpensive, I would suggest either Wendy's or Golden Corral. But if your looking for a fun evening and a fine Italian dinner, Piccolo is your place. If I could rate it higher than 5 stars, I would. One final note: if you park along the driveway, stay away from the guy's bamboo behind the restaurant long story. Enjoy!
First of all, I’ve never written a review in my life, but our experience last night was horrific, and we have to warn others. I should have known better when the menu on Open table was different then the menu on their website. If you are going to have a weekly menu, then you should update it weekly, everywhere. Upon entering, we were greeted graciously, the place was small but cozy. The owner came over a few times during our meal and was very charming, made us laugh and really got us pumped for his food, showing off that the chef was from Rome, etc. Etc. We ordered the mixed green salad, Caesar, charcuterie and the clams fra Diablo. The broth of the clams was bland, basically the appetizers were fair, at best. Then our entrees. My mother and my wife shared the gnocchi, which came out room temp, pretty gross and they each got the fish of the day, Mediterranean Bronzino. If you are going to charge $48 for a bronzino you better filet it at my table, have amazing flavor and/or have a Manhattan Address. You are on Main Street in port Chester. Maybe if it had flavor they wouldn’t have minded but the fish was bland and burnt. Probably what made the place all Smokey and all of our eyes watery. Owners should invest in some better venting with their ridiculous profits from the fish. My brother got the fettuccine bolognese and I got the fettuccine osso bucco, again, both bland and low on salt. My aunt and my daughter each got the linguini and clam sauce. My daughter, although only 8, is a connoisseur of this dish and I am as well. Never in all of my Italian dining experience ranging from Don Peps in queens To the original Il Mulino in the city, to practically any Italian restaurant in the world has a linguine in clam sauce WITHOUT GARLIC. You CAN NOT call it a linguini and clam sauce if it doesn’t have garlic. I have never complained at a restaurant before or ever sent a dish back but my daughters linguini was inedible, we couldn’t place the smell but it was either uncooked white wine or too much butter. The worst part, was when we complained about the linguini and sent it back, the owner NEVER came back to us. No apology, no explanation, truly Classless. AND THEY CHARGED US FOR IT. A true gentlemen would have taken it off the bill. The service sucked, with only one waitress and no busboys. Had to wave her down repeatedly. I really do not understand how they have been in business this long.
I eat at a LOT of Italian restaurants and I LOVE the food here! This is the place for your date, your family meal, your working lunch. A real home run! I saw one person made a negative review, but I think she must have some hidden agenda because this food is the BOMB. Pete's a gentleman and his staff is top notch. Piccolo Italian Gourmet, don't change!
Great selection of paninis, pastas and appetizers. Friendly service. Very good value. All menu items under $20. We ordered a few paninis, rice balls, and butternut squash gnocchi. Everyone was very satisfied with their orders. Paninis Even came with a little mixed green salad on the side, nice touch. the kids chicken fingers were made to order from fresh chicken, not the frozen boxed variety, nice to see. Will def be back to try one of the other menu items.
