Lake is pleasant to look at. A+. Quiet. Run down a bit. Old campers, rvs very old with mold and grimey moss all over them. Old southern place. Staff is ok.Wont be going back there. D-
I was looking for a ramp to launch. Arrived here with signs posted saying private property. Total dump. Ashame that this place fell into disrepair. Since it's one of the few ramps on that lake up North.
Nasty stank trash keep your kids close the owners is a P.O.S. and all he can do is lie.
doesn't look any different than when aunt midge owned and ran it. that lady sure knew how to fish and i spent many a day fishing from the bank and row boat she would let me use. did i mention that was in the 50"s. i haven't been there in years but google maps shows it has sure grown up out there. i remember uncle peewee building that road out to pine island but there was no driving it back then and not worth the walk for fishing. because of aunt midge i still start wiggling my mouth if the fish don't bite. she went with me one day and set on a bed. she was pulling in fish one after another and i wasn't getting a bite- i acused her of putting me off the bed so she did 180 with boat and set where i was. she still pulled them in left and right and i still got no bite. i asked why and she said you ain't holding your mouth right. i stared wiggling it and started catching. yes sir that is a fact.
I remember Pine Island Campground in the 1970s, when Larry and his wife ran it. It looks the same as then, when they let my old man's boat sink. Actually, it looks like it hasn't been touched since the 1970s, except the old gas sign wasn't there at the end of the docks.
I dated the son of the owner and livef with them for almost 6 months upon leaving they tried to steal some of my items that were extremely important to me..not only that they wouldn't even let me in the household to get my belongings i had to get the police involved. BE Careful with those two they are garbage racist people with no respect for others. Dont come to this camp pick another one.
If you are interested in boating and fishing, or want to take a walk back in time to the 1850's, then pay a visit to the Pine Island Fish Camp. It was once the site of an old settlement called Sligh and sits at the end of the road that leads straight into Lake Griffin. Stand at the boat ramp, close your eyes and let your imagination wander. You might hear the sound of a steamboat blowing its horn announcing it's arrival. In the 1850's, where the boat ramp is today, is the exact spot where the big boats landed delivering supplies that came down from the St. John's river. In the 1880's, once the railroad came to Lady Lake, there was no longer a need to transport goods by the much slower and more expensive steamboat. This unique area has been home to some of the same families for decades. A few still live in aging RV's that look as though they have never been moved. This is also an RV park where several snowbirds come to fish and hide from the harsh winter weather up north. Shiny new rigs and pickups dot the grounds, overshadowing ancient rusting RV's, mobile homes and dilapidated cabins. There is some amazing architecture found in two rare cabins made from stones and look to have been built in the late 1800's. The small two door duplex cabin is nearly overgrown and has not been occupied in years. The second larger home may actually still be occupied, but I couldn't say for sure. I'd love to have seen inside the little one. It must have been a pretty little place kept cool by the shade of the enormous oak trees now burying it. The whole place sits silently in a mixed grove of oak and palm trees. Moss sweeps over the RV's lined up in neat rows. Inside the well-worn shop, rifles are for sale hanging on the walls alongside fishing poles, large mouth stuffed bass and boat rudders. Grab a beer or soda if you're thirsty and sit back tell fish stories while sitting on a stool at the old counter. This place is only for Republicans, as is evidenced by a unique sign on the window that reads, "If you are a Communist Socialist or worse a Democrat we don't need your business please go away." A Trump sticker graces the front door. I felt like I had walked into the woods and found a place that had never been altered or updated since it was established 150 years ago. However, it is the only place I have found that has public access to Lake Griffin, which is now completely enclosed by private property on this side of the lake. Pine Island Fish Camp is well worth a visit, especially if you're interested in seeing a place that is slow, quiet and unassuming in a vintage lakeside setting. Listen for it - you might just hear the blast from the steamboat.
This is really cool old school fish camp on Lake Griffin. They have some RV spots and you can launch your boat and get your bait here. It truly is like stepping back in time to Old Florida.
It's old and run down. Docks have collapsed into the water. Neat in a way for old Florida history.
I been fishing alot of places but hands down theses are the biggest shell crackers and brim I have ever seen in my life, we had to move around and find them but it was worth it
