We thoroughly enjoyed one of the best plays we've ever seen. I put "Shucked" 2nd to "Lion King" at 1st, and ahead of "The Book of Mormon" at 3rd. This story is filled with laughter, a few tears, and incredible singing performances. I compare it to "Music Man". The play is similarly set in the Midwest, where an 'out of towner' sets his sites on taking advantage of their situation. Don't miss your chance to see this play. Some of my enthusiasm may be due to 'Covid deprivation', but, I think you'll agree with me.
Very nice theater. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The seats are stadium style, but not staggered, so I had to lean to my side to look around the guy's head in front of me. We saw Elf - The Musical. I'll review that more indepth somewhere else, but it was a so-so play done by great actors.
The Pioneer theater is a nice spot to see a live show. The theater itself is on the small side so you'd be hard pressed to find a bad seat. The theater is in the middle of the U of U campus so parking can be unpleasant as there isn't a dedicate lot for the theater. There were refreshments available in the lobby during intermission, but the lobby is pretty cramped with only a few chairs. The prices for the show we attended were pretty high for the quality of the venue and production which were average to slightly below average. I'd recommend this theater, but you can probably find better options if you look around. There are better quality theaters in and around Salt Lake for a lower price.
We usually enjoy our evenings at this theatre. This last site wasn't our favorite, but there have been several great performances on this stage.
Pioneer is the most underrated theatre company in Salt Lake City. They produce super high quality shows with a mostly equity cast, but mount them locally rather than bring in a touring show. And their ticket prices are VERY reasonable given their amazing productions.
Except for the 2 actual Broadway plays which were great, the rest were just fillers. The worst in my opinion were the so-called musicals with actors who could barely sing e.g. a Christmas story
The theatre is absolutely gorgeous. Sit in the back if you don't want to be near people. Hosts are super nice.
"What Does The Constitution Mean To You," was deeply moving, well written and the acting was exquisite. I love this theater.
Pioneer Theater always presents high quality productions. They are professional, enjoyable, and offer a variety of shows—family friendly, for more adult audiences, world premieres, musicals, and dramas, and comedies. Don’t miss their season’s offering. My company @Front Row Reviewers is privileged to serve them by reviewing their wonderful productions. Pioneer Theatre is a marvelous addition to Utah Arts. 5
Went and saw A Christmas Story this year and it was awesome! They were very talented and I loved the atmosphere. The building itself is great, lots of restroom, seats in the auditorium are comfy and you have lots of leg room which is unheard of in most theaters.
