I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this theatre is. Complete with a licensed snack bar with a good selection of treats. Sound and optics were excellent as well. Too bad there aren't more of these older theatres around.
Recently saw “Raging Bull” and “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” at the Playhouse these being my first 2 visits to the theatre. What an amazing job they’ve done of restoring and preserving the cinema. Looking forward to watching many more films here.
Just watched the movie “Magnolia” at the Playhouse Cinema on 35mm. This was my first time watching a movie here and it was great! The presentation was beautiful, the screen is big and wide, the projection was sharp and the audio was perfect! The audience was plenty as it was the last screening and respectful of others. A place where people who love movies, watch movies! They have popcorn, wine and beer with friendly staff. The exterior and interior architecture was beautiful too! Will definitely come back!
Grand traditional theatre restored and awesome. Arrived too early but was able to wait on a chair inside. Theatre seating was comfortable even for my Princess and the Pea sensitivity. Sound quality was exemplary - not too quiet nor too loud. Last I was there, I saw Memoria with Tilda Swinton. This time I took in "The Young Arsonists.' Sheila Pye examines the inception of female rage and its origins in trauma and wounding in a coming of age for teen girls. She handles all her instruments with artistic surgical precision. Her audience included family members. They appeared shocked at her victorious defiance of conventions. The ending speaks to the power of feminist gaze. Where one cannot but help think about her choice of Maddie Martin as one of two co-leads/actors - exactly how autobiographical was this? Superb.
This place is amazing. Go for a date here, take anyone you know who loves movies. They sell local beer and coffee. Support this Cinema, whose owners are obviously incredibly passionate about bringing back the magic of the movie theatre.
After a Covid-19 hiatus, l returned for the screening of "The Leftovers". I had forgotten how beautiful the renos were, that tantalizing popcorn smell & those super comfy seats! I'll be back soon:
Beautiful space, comfortable seats, great selection of films being shown, reasonably-priced refreshments and clean washrooms.
Love Playhouse Cinema. I have been going there since it reopened in 2019. Watching new and especially classic films there is a real treat. The isles are spacious and the seats are comfortable. They have delicious treats from Listowel and now Jam Up the Mash Sours by Collective Arts. In September I watched Star Wars and Goldfinger back to back. It was fantastic getting to watch them on a big screen. Just over a week ago I watched The Shinning and The Rocky Horror Picture Show back to back. So much fun. Their membership is reasonable at $14. It allows you to procure a ticket for $10...most films. The membership also gets you a movie snack combo deal. The theatre is full of charm, great vibes and always offers a fantastic selection of films...new and old.
I like how the seating area is different. It really gives you the feeling of watching it with others. I like when they have 35mm film here and I'd like to see more of that. The movie selection for Halloween was great,
Genuine, enthusiastic staff and excellent programming make The Playhouse best cinema in town.
