Nice and relaxing park… we have camped here twice this year, first during late Spring, and in November. Have not had the opportunity to enjoy the Splash Pad with the kids, but we have gone fishing, bike riding, miniature golfing, and playground. Overall, this is a decent park. I really love it’s nature!! One downfall is that we have to be careful at night since we have heard stuff get stolen. Both time we stayed in the “primitive” area by the lake, same space since it is big, though these sites don’t have full hookups, they are still decent. Bathrooms are clean, but hot water did not work this time. The lake is nice and relaxing, but I really don’t think it has any fish at all…we tried several times and caught nothing, people fishing didn’t get anything either, that was a waste of time, people said it was restocked, I don’t think that was true. Minigolf is always fun, he boys enjoy it a lot; however, it needs urgent maintenance and new carpets. It would be more fun if it was better maintained. I like that they have cabins, a nice store that only needs longer hours, the paved campground is nice and has full hookups, we might try it next time. Overall this is a clean, relaxing, and friendly campground…I would recommend to people reading the reviews and make sure to reserve a spot that would meet your needs, this camp has good options and lots to do.
This is a fantastic place to stay! Relaxing and laid back. The spray park for the kids was amazing. Fish ponds, walking trails and playground are well kept and lovely. Store staff was friendly and was local to the area which we appreciated. Hope to be back soon.
Needed some grass and trees in our spot. Hook ups on wrong side. Other than that, very peaceful, very clean. Overall we really enjoyed it. Can't wait to come back and try the fishing.
I live locally and have been coming here for awhile now.. Cottonwood camp grounds are nice, lake view area not as nice as it used to be.. the worst part is they sell day passes and let people have birthday parties at the splash pad, that being said there is no where for people with kids that are camping there to set anything up. That really kills it bad.
Camped for four days in Lakeview area. Unkept and needs maintenance. Lots of campers appeared to have been there for awhile and sites were trashy. Even the Camp Host needs to clean up their site. Cottonwood side looks much nicer.
Shout out to the rangers here...they take their job seriously and go the extra mile to keep campers safe and informed. The campground is clean and the camp spaces and the grounds are well maintained. We have stayed here in the Cottonwood campsites many times, only stayed in Lakeside once. In the few times we have had to use the laundry facilities they've gotten the job done just fine. Weekends are booked out in advance but if you keep a close watch online you can usually find a cancellation for the weekend but not always. Sites 200 thru 239 are grass sites and sites 240 and above are dirt sites, but all sites in Cottonwood have concrete pads and full 50/30 amp hookups. There is a stocked pond, a splash pad, camp store with most of the necessities, and you're only 2 miles from a Stater Bros grocery store and several gas stations as well as downtown Riverside with everything. Mt. Rubidoux is a fun hike right next door and is usually busy with all types of hikers on the paved trail. The rangers will tell you to lock up your bikes up at night and even then they can get stolen, we've had a couple bikes stolen and once we had a bin of shoes taken so tody up at night and you'll be fine. We like to watch the owls and bats at night and there are lots of white tail bunny rabbits bouncing around everywhere. Also 5 or 6 skunks that roam about but they're used to people and dont get riled too easily. It's also a good idea to call the reservations number as they will sometimes save you the $8 reservation fee, especially on multiple bookings.
I got there early at 1130am. My site was empty, I walked over to it. They said just til noon they would get back to me. 1215pm I asked again. At 1230pm they said it was ready. I drove over to a trashy site 231. No shade tree. Virtually all trees are planted in wrong places for site shade. Families had pop-ups and chairs 30ft from awnings for nearest shade tree. No good. Playground: Outstanding waterpark
I like this place and so does my dog. Nice trails and wildlife to explore. Miniature golf course is fun too.
Cottonwood campground is 5 star but Lakeview has declined to two stars. Dirty. Dusty and sand burrs. Lake is great as is splash pad and playgrounds.
The cabins are reasonable. They were clean and sanitized. The park rangers patrolled the park24/7 it seemed. We felt safe. Everyone appeared to have followed the rules and had done their part in keeping the park free of trash. There were a few families partying but they obeyed park rules and weren't troublesome at all. We definitely will attend again.
