REI

Description

At REI, we love to get outside and play, and we know first-hand the importance of quality outdoor gear. We stand behind all our products with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and we design our own line of award-winning REI brand gear and clothing. Whether you're new to outdoor adventure or a seasoned pro, we gladly share our enthusiasm for our products--and the trails, slopes and waterways where we play.

Each year, REI donates millions of dollars to support conservation efforts nationwide and sends dedicated teams of volunteers--members, customers and REI employees--to build trails, clean up beaches, restore local habitats and more.... Through responsible business practices across the company, we strive to reduce our environmental footprint.

What began as a group of 23 mountain climbing buddies is now the nation's largest consumer cooperative. But no matter how large we grow, our roots remain firmly planted in the outdoors. Our passion for outdoor adventure is clear, whether you visit any of our stores across the country, phone us, or interact with us online.

By staying true to our roots, we've earned a place on FORTUNE magazine's list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" every year since the rankings began in 1998. We work hard to earn our reputation for quality and integrity every day. Our core purpose guides everything we do: we all work to inspire, educate and outfit for a lifetime of outdoor adventure and stewardship.

Went in to browse bikes and just see things in person. They had a good selection but I wasn't sure what would be good for me specifically. Asked one of the employees over in the bike area who had initially greeted us and she was incredibly helpful. Explained to her my preferences and our budget and she found the perfect bike for me. She explained how they make sure it's assembled correctly and adjusted before you take it home. Went home to check out the colors available and order online. We were planning to ship it to this store but another REI has it in stock so we're picking it up today. Still really pleased with the service at this store and since it's closest to us, we'll definitely be going here for any future service needed on the new bike.
Been to this REI several times so I can say I’ve had good and bad experiences. The checkout staff is usually fine, and they do have a pretty great selection of items. The process for buying shoes was great and the employees there were really helpful. When it comes to bag fitting though, I have had really weird employees who were kind of rude and annoyed to have to help. I went in to buy a backpack, told the employee what I was looking for and he just stood there? Didn’t ask if I needed help getting fitted, just kind of odd. Didn’t offer to show me any other bags either so I just left and bought it online. The other day I had to rent a pack for my friend and the rental guy was rude as well, despite me trying to be friendly as possible. During the fitting he seemed annoyed and when I did ask a question about if a rain cover on the pack was needed, he said I had to buy one. Yeah sorry but who is going to buy a rain cover for a backpack they don’t own? Kind of weird imo, but that’s not really a big deal since I could just get a poncho or trash bag and it’d work fine. However for someone who’s new to backpacking and doesn’t know this, it could be bad and you think that would be something they would mention, especially to renters. It’s not a bad store by any means, but if you want a good backpack buying experience I would recommend a different location personally. Backpacks can vary fit wise for each person so it’s important that you feel comfortable in it before you buy. This store won’t really help with that so if anything you’d be better off just buying online and saving yourself an awkward experience.
We went to REI in Vernon Hills to buy a new bicycle for my son. They assisted us right away! The person who assisted us Steve I think was his name is knowledgeable about the bicycles that they are selling, he was focused on what my 8 year old needs and wants in a bicycle, instructing my son how to adjust the speed, had my son test drive the bicycle with safety in mind. I liked REI before but I love them even more because of the service we got. Started a membership with them too that day.
New to camping and this place is great for demo-ing a lot of the latest and greatest camping tech. The associates working here know their stuff in their respective areas and are more than happy to assist newcomers like me. I end up spending over 2 hours here just trying stuff out and trying to figure out what to buy first xD
Coolest camping/hiking/ect store ever! Give John a raise!!! This man is super duper cool and helped us for a good while finding nice hiking boots! Very kind and bright hearted!
LOVE the co-op! If you need real help choosing hiking boots, go here. They listen to your needs and actually know what they are talking about. They help, not sell. Plus love the boot trail testing area. Associate even showed us a different way to tie the boots to get the tension needed. Can't beat that!
Quality products. Super helpful staff. Reasonably good selection of Kuhl brand items and hiking shoes/boosts.
This had to be the biggest selection of winter camping gear I have ever seen. The selection was huge. They had a large selection of biking products as well. The people were helpful and very pleasant. I was asked if I needed help four times while I was walking around but always in a friendly manner.
Solid locations of outdoor gear, including climbing, biking, hiking, kayaking, and more. Staff was both helpful and friendly. The store has a good selection, though isn't huge. REI is also a very ethically responsible company, and a good choice to support. Highly recommended.
I rented camping tent and sleeping bags, pads and stuff for my first ever camping experience for 4 days. The employees were very helpful in giving me recommendations as I told them it was my first time camping. The 2 person tent they gave us for rent barely accommodates two persons. We ended up not even using any of their stuff. Waste of money!
