Thankful I had the opportunity to stop in at this beautiful independent bookstore, located right on the outside of Chicago. Barbar's Bookstore hosted an author event for Porsha Williams "Pursuit of Porsha" novel. From my first experience, to actually having the opportunity to meet Ms. Williams at the store, I had an amazing professional, kind and friendly interactions with both the team members at the bookstore as well as with Ms. William's team. Pursuit of Porsha, did not disappoint. The book was heartfelt, well written and enduring. Ms. William's Did an amazing job of taking the reader on a journey and a journey and explaining the how's and why's along the way. For the past few years or more, I have seen her on a wide media scale and it was very connecting to read about the journey getting there and who she is and was as a person before the person we would grow to learn to know. I highly recommend taking time to let this author into your world. Read she is kind and has an amazing story to share.
Awesome bookstore, they often host events like author readings and have speakers come perform. I really enjoy the open layout with lots of couches. It really feels like they're inviting you to come and relax and read. It's also pretty neat that you get a bit of a discount on your book purchases if you buy a coffee at the coffee shop inside. The staff has always been friendly and greeted me kindly.
Very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Delicious coffee, tea and espresso at Hansa. Kind and patient staff. They host a variety of local events within the store, and seem to care a great deal about the community. Am happy that the mall gained a great bookstore after B&N moved out.
Great selection, friendly staff! They have a great clearance section.
While this store has a good selection of books, they did not have exactly what I was seeking but offered to order it for me. The staff was courteous. I would definitely shop there again.
What happened to Barnes & Noble? This place is practically empty! They have far too few books and far too many random seating areas. I couldn't find the book I wanted because they no longer sold the genre the book belonged to. It's a such a shame.
Barnes and Noble was so much better. I love the stage and readings but so many different kinds of books are gone. I used to come in to Barnes and Noble for poetry books all the time, but I can never find any in Barbara's. Sad.
This is such a fun place to visit. I love that they're so supportive of local authors! There's always some upcoming event with authors from this area and you can attend their session things then talk to them. Super cool experience
I've been going to Barbara's bookstores since 1979. The one thing this area missed was an independent Bookseller and now they've got one of the best. Looking forward to the summer as they continue to ramp up events, book signings, and live music in the coming months
. + A very enjoyable store. Have you ever seen the movie, 'You've got Mail'? The movie starred Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. This kind of puts you in that mood, LOL. a very relaxing place, not like the old Barnes & Noble that was there before. I would be remiss not to mention Barbara's manager, Ryan, he's a big help and an asset to the store. I like his eagerness to assist not just me but all of the customers that were in the store at the time I was there. The schedule of celebrity book signings was impressive, and the the amount of titles and best sellers is second to none. The coffee is really really good. A great place for book club gatherings and just to browse magazines, papers and books. Small chain, a lot of substance. It takes Moxie to compete with the big chains, Barbara's does it well without blinking, LOL. This is a 5 + star store. I also almost forgot to mention the theater classes and productions they put on in the store, a great place for kids to learn the trade. Remember the Master Thespian Jon Lovitz from Saturday night live? He used to say, "just acting" LOL.
