Rockville station

Description

Rockville is a joint Washington Metro, MARC, and Amtrak train station in Rockville, Maryland, United States. The station was opened on December 15, 1984, and is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The station is serviced by the Red Line, and is located in downtown Rockville at Hungerford Drive (MD 355) near Park Avenue. The government buildings for Rockville and Montgomery County are located about two blocks away, as are those of several large companies. MARC's Brunswick Line commuter trains and Amtrak's daily Capitol Limited share the station building with Metro. The Metro portion of the station has an island platform with tracks on either side, while MARC and Amtrak use the two tracks adjacent to two side platforms on the east side of the station. An old Baltimore and Ohio Railroad station was moved to make way for the Metro. The station opened on December 15, 1984. Its opening coincided with the completion of 7mi of rail northwest of the then named Grosvenor station and the opening of the Shady Grove, Twinbrook, and White Flint stations.

Parking was very easy to find close to the station to go to a Nats game on a Tuesday night which was a plus. Station was as clean as a metro could be. The signage for upcoming trains has been updated to LED signage which is helpful. $5.20 parking is high but finding parking was easy so I guess that's the trade off.
Rockville is a pretty good stop. Lots within a short walking distance. Nothing inspiring about the station itself and very little within the station. Foot traffic is steady and a mix between residents and business people.
Rockville is a very convenient MARC and Metro stop -- plenty of parking in this post-pandemic world. Also, access to local buses, taxis, and Ubers.
There's cover to block rain, but during winter cold winds on the platform are Real owing to that roof: the station is one of the few in the system to be visibly growing both stalactites and stalagmites. There's very limited parking- if attempting to park after the morning rush don't expect a parking space. Pretty easy transfer between MARC and WMATA trains/buses. Well-served by frequent buses in many directions. A convenient pedestrian bridge connects to downtown Rockville, though this bridge gets extremely windy in winter. Nice sunset views toward downtown Rockville from the platforms.
No signage for Amtrak. Followed the signs for MARC going to DC but the train came on the opposite platform.
Cons: No signage for Amtrak. Follow signs for MARC. Be prepared for no services; this is just a train platform. No ticket desk. Must purchase ticket on-line. Limited shelter from the elements. No overnight parking. Pros: it's a fuctional platform in a convient location for the suburbs. Can get on a train heading West without having to go in to Union Station in DC. Only need to arrive just prior to hopping on - no security lines or check in process. Adjacent to Metro line & Metro bus stop. Elevator working on week days.
This station is located in the heart of downtown Rockville. It is located along the railroad tracks and the metro station is part of a shared metro/Marc complex. As for the station, it is a pretty standard above ground station near the Northwestern end of the Red Line, with an island platform. However, the roof is a peaked roof. This station was the first station on the system with a peaked roof. Rockville opened in December of 1984 as part of the extension to Shady Grove.
Easy transfer from MARC/Metro trains/Metro buses. Amtrak stops here every day and MARC during morning/evening rush hour.
Worst trip ever! Had over 2 hours of delay without a reason. Now I try to contact Amtrak but they don't think they need to do a good customer service and that they don't need to treat they costumers like they want them to travel again with amtrak. Would never recommend them! Would never use them again!
Good place to see trains. Patrolled by police. Be safe.
