Rockwood Summit High School

Description

Rockwood Summit High School is a public high school in Fenton, Missouri that is part of the Rockwood School District. Summit opened in 1993 on the same day as Marquette High School, another Rockwood high school.HistoryIn early 1992, Rockwood School District determined the necessity of constructing two new high schools to serve an expanding population. After voting to build the schools in March 1992, the Rockwood Board of Education unanimously voted to name the new southeast high school as Rockwood Summit High School. In May 1992, the board named Tom Hensley as the first principal of the school, and construction began that summer according to designs by the William B. Ittner architectural firm. Rock blasting was required to construct the building, which increased the cost by $207,000. The original estimate for the building was $17 million; the total cost of the building upon completion was $22.7 million, although the school was built with a combined cafeteria and theater to save $2.5 million. Among the $22.7 million cost of the building, costs for the pool facilities were $400,000, roofing and sheet metal were $780,000, masonry was $995,000, and data and voice networks were $200,000. When built, Summit featured a two-story commons and atrium, 77 classrooms, several computer labs, and art, music and theater facilities. The school opened on September 7, 1993, on the same day as Marquette High School, which was the first time that a school district in the St. Louis area had opened two new high schools on the same day. It opened with 635 9th and 10th grade students. In 1998, Summit's first principal, Tom Hensley, retired after 26 years in the district; his replacement, Larry Berneking, transferred from Eureka High School. In 1999, the school became the first in the St. Louis area to sponsor an equestrian club; in its first year, the club started with a dozen members and offered a variety of activities to learn about horseback riding.

I moved to Fenton, from the city for the schools elementary and high school. I believe the experiences in and out of the classroom for my two graduated students and one currently attending Summit, prepared them well for college and beyond.
This is an extremely racist school. My sister goes here, she’s a junior, she’s black, and so there was a student making racist jokes in class and she told him shut the f*** up. Now the teacher has a problem with cursing but ignores racism and my sister gets a referral and detention and the racist student doesn’t get a word spoken to him. Not the first time something like this has happened or the first year. The students are blatantly racist, making racist jokes, saying racial slurs, racially charged bullying, and the teachers act like they don’t see anything. I’ve gotten in contact with the superintendent for the district and principals of the school and every time we speak they promise how they will look into an incident but nothing has ever been done. Bottom line is if you’re a minority don’t send your child to this school because they will be subjected to nothing but unfair treatment, racism, and prejudice.
wouldn't even give this school one star if I could. Worst school in the world. The students are all racist and the staff does nothing about it. The teachers grade you on how much they like you rather then how smart you are. The lunch is complete trash they keep the fruit out for like a week. If you do something bad you only get if major trouble if you're black. Don't EVER send your child to this school you will regret it j too the day you die. Worst school o ever been to I always wake up hoping to. It go but I can't. This school is the biggest joke in the world. TRASHWOOD SUMMIT. Also this school has a major bullying problem but no one wants to solve it. Full of cliques and groups. You won't make it in this school if you aren't wearing lulu lemon.
At track meet 7 bucks to get in and can't even watch my kid run due to so many umbrellas in the way school has no control been to lots of meets this is the worst by far i just left
Both of my kids graduated from Rockwood Summit High School and they received a great education.
