Nightmare of a college and a waste of a lot of my money! Don't bother going here for an education.... you won't get one! Teachers don't teach and staff is clueless. It is a sorry excuse for a college. We my daughter and I met with a counselor. They set her on a 'track' and signed her up for 2 classes. I paid $1300 for 2 classes not counting the materials and curriculum. One class was in person and seemed a tad odd for a requirement for the track she should be on so we met with counselor again and was told it was mandatory. WRONG! Turns out when said and done the counselor had her on the wrong 'track' and it was the wrong class. The worst part is the instructor made them meditate at the beginning of every class- what a joke pushing her own beliefs on the students. My daughter just showed up late 15 minutes every class. This class was not worth $650 plus materials. Second class was the biggest PROBLEM and the one I am most angry about. It was an 'online' class. Funny- the instructor NEVER taught one class! NOT one- not joking. YOU HEARD ME. NOT ONE CLASS. Not even recorded classes. He sent the curriculum to purchase with a syllabus of when assignments were due. That's it! $650 and it was a self taught class! All he did was grade the work. ****I feel completely scammed****. When we ran into issues about the material and emailed the teacher twice, the reply from the instructor was one to three word answers that made no sense. Shame on him! Needless to say she failed the course- even after her dad and I spent days sitting with her to try and teach her and get her caught up but the instructor takes points off late work and she couldn't recover! Again- shame on him. He said he teaches too many classes to be able to instruct this course. Then why did RCC charge me $650 and $250 for the kindle curriculum? They should have informed us of this classes circumstances and didn't. $900 for someone to grade her papers. She could have learned this Excel course anywhere online for a lot less. Total was almost $2,000 for 2 classes! Learned NOTHING! I am angry beyond words. I want my money back, but they don't care. PLEASE- don't waste your time, money and energy here. ***There is no education here!***
Persistence required. While my story might be a little lengthy it is critical people have the details. I decided I would enroll in RCC. During the entire enrollment I felt completely on my own. For most of the process I blindly followed a new direction from a new person/department. I wanted to understand the process but nobody seemed to really know or would not say. I had to take one step at a time until my first classes started. I finally got through the whole process and even finished two classes with a passing grade. I was working full time while taking two classes twice a week. I had to withdraw after illness and infection would have it no other way. Once healed, I knew working full time and taking two classes was unrealistic. I was surprised and disappointed about how much they expect you to teach yourself. I thought most of the learning would come from the teachers, not so. You cannot afford mistakes and you cannot afford to fall behind.
I wish I never wasted my money. The enrollment staff were condesending and snarky. Some teachers made clear their disdain for certain political and religious ideologies. I had teachers who missed multiple classes, when I brought up that I was struggling, I was told that everything I need to learn was in the book. If all I need is the book, why not lower my tuition and get rid of the teachers? I was completely dissatisfied with a teacher's style and work ethic so I finally withdrew from the class. When I brought up the issue to their support staff I was told there was nothing they could do to for me, and I was out a few hundred dollars. Never mind the fact that career programs are in cycles, so if you miss a class, you have to wait until the next year to continue the program. The whole experience was so impersonal, which I would not expect from a small school. Do yourself a favor and go to a trade school, where the teachers are actually experienced in what they are teaching and the school has a support staff who actually care about your success.
I knew going into college I had to be proactive about my education because things don't come easy in the real world. Thankfully I found great help when I went in to speak with a guidance councilor. Also the new student orientation taught me a lot about my resources at the college, the most memorable part that stuck out to me was the funding your college part. I took advantage of the TRIO program to figure out the FAFSA thing. I can't wait to start on my nursing degree now and I just hope I win scholarships to make my college dreams a reality!
The instructors are great. The office staff and financial aid department is a joke. I have been a student for over 3 years and am almost ready to graduate, and I have been asked to fill out form after form every year, even though my household information has not changed. Even though a person fills out a FASFA, they will make you fill out more forms to "make sure the FASFA is correct". I filled it out and checked it, of course it's correct. I just think the financial aid office needs to find a way to keep their jobs. I went in first thing in the morning and still waited over 15 minutes for a financial aid lady to call me back. Why?, because they were to busy talking with each other about non-work related stuff. I could here their whole conversation. So while a person attending college that secures their employment waits to be helped, they just sit on their butts and talk. Terrible service. Then their books that are used for certain classes are printed with just the chapters needed for a particular class, printed on regular paper, have a 3 hole punch, and sold wrapped in plastic. The books are terribly expensive another way for them to make tons of money. You are expected to pay for a 3 ring binder, and on top of it they won't buy it back at the end of the term. So you are stuck with an expensive stack of papers that they call a book and can't resell anywhere. The classes are expensive. Financial aid is put on a Higher One card which is also a joke and fees have to be paid to withdraw the money from the card, unless you go to the atm located at the college. Also, the atm at the college doesn't have 24 hour access. Their solution is for me to get a bank account to have it transferred, but then I have to pay bank fees because there isn't money going into the account every month. I have to tell you, do not waste your time attending Rogue Community College. I rent my books now from an outside source and have saved tons. I seriously am contemplating transferring to another college just so I don't have to deal with them anymore, and that way it drops their graduation rate and retention rate down even lower! Look at this college success rate, it speaks volumes!
In the multiple terms I went to RCC I only had a single instructor that showed interest in her students. I was once in a class full of people that had quite literally just been released from jail for burglary, meth, car theft, assaults, etc, and I knew this because at the time I was in charge of a neighborhood watch and frequently saw names and faces of recently arrested persons. I haven't been a student at the college in over 6 years yet I'm now being told I owe them money and they are threatening to send me to collections. In all the time I attended I never once saw any of the school board or school dean out talking with students. The school has it's own collection agency, somehow RCC thinks it's ethically acceptable to have a branch of their business that unethically charges current and former students, potentially devastating their credit rating. This school, for all intents and purposes, cares nothing about students and is 100% about the lives of their staff. Massively disappointing.
As far as some instructors go, they run their classes beautifully, but the school is a waste of time. They capitalize on the idea that they're the only continued education facility in the valley, which is true for the most part. The alternatives are online courses which may not suit everyone's needs. Trying to get financial aid for the first time was appalling, Just skip the TRiO office where i was first directed to as they waste your time with useless paperwork, give you no deadlines, and can be the reason you go an entire year without financial aid. The courses themselves are way too expensive for a community/junior college, again, capitalizing on having a monopoly on higher education. You often pay upwards of 360-400 for a 3 credit core class before books and supplies. The counseling department is useless, they tend to just repeat themselves, even if you ask on futher clarification. Their record keeping is flawed i spent 3 hours waiting to talk to someone in the financial aid office about a payment and they have no record of it They contradict themselves. For example, telling you if you miss any of the first two weeks of a course you WILL be dropped then turn around and charge you for a class you never attended stating that they don't always drop you. they fees are ridiculous the office is completely unwillng to help you and even if you play by their rules they still get their money by other means like your tax returns or garnishing your wages If you can find away around this establishment, i recommend it. If online school works for you i advise you go there instead, because this was the most frustrating 3 years of my life.
I was enrolled in calculus and chemistry and was on the honor roll. But I ran into problems with finding help from tutors and class mates with calculus homework. It got way over my head and I was failing the class and completely stressed out. I asked a financial aid adviser named Wendy what the consequences of dropping out would be. she assured me there would be no significant consequences and urged me to drop. Now I owe the school over $800 because of her wrongful advice. I will never return to this school again.
This college is too expensive to be a community college! Teachers are helpful. Financial office staff not so much. The TRiO office doesn't help you in any way other than kill your time. Transferring as soon as I can.
Easily the most Racist, sexist and corrupted college in Gp. Repeatedly and constantly screwing over the lower income students and teachers choosing favorites, especially with financial aid services, They uninformative and unreliable. Its the same story time and time again consistently. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, OR YOUR MONEY BECAUSE THEY WILL FORCE YOU TO SPEND IT.
