It sounds strange to say, but I had a wonderful time and experience here. Losing my sister, I didn’t know what to do, but Jean treated me with kindness and graciousness I will never forget when I needed it most. All of the staff I dealt with, it was clear they cared, and were doing their best for me and my family. I recently recommended a dear friend their services when dealing with the loss of their loved one, because I know they will be in the best of hands.
Jean was our funeral director and she took care of us from the moment we met. She’s very delightful, nice, and she definitely cares about the families she works with. No matter what questions you have she makes sure she answers them or gets the answers for you. She will take care of you each step of the way. Thank you Jean for being such an amazing funeral director and having the heart of gold.
Thank you to everyone at Rose City who made this difficult time incredibly easy. Prompt service, knowledgeable help, but more importantly, compassionate and all-around good natured and good humored people. We were helped by Jean for my uncles cremation and celebration of life. Rose City didn’t get money from the memorial, but despite that, Jean took time out of her busy schedule to help us find a venue and a caterer, plus cremation jewelry from a different provider. She didn’t have to go that far for us, but we are so thankful she did. Thank you again to everyone we spoke to at Rose City and who helped us through these difficult days.

Jean was our funeral director. She was very patient and compassionate with our situation. She handled some drama with poise and professionalism. Thank you Jean! The facility is beautiful and everything was explained with thoughtfulness of the situation in mind. Cost seem reasonable and they are helpful in many ways. Would recommend to anyone in time of need and looking for guidance in helping a loved one move to the other side
The service was beautiful and we had the best staff - Jean Fox and Brea. They made the environment and the help they offered a humbling experience. We are greatful for their caring hearts.
Rose City Cemetery is an important part of Black History everyone in Portland needs to know about but most people outside the black community DON’T know about. It’s the final resting place of so many in my family and the families of black people all across Portland. On a more personal note, I recently attended the burial of a family friend here. They did a beautiful job and the Funeral Director was a genuinely sweet woman. I was impressed with the way they did the burials here too. Very thorough, careful and respectful. It was an eye-opening experience, having visited graves here of relatives for years and only now just attending the actual burial for someone at Rose City. I’ll always recommend this place to any families no matter their race or religion or beliefs in general who are looking for compassionate care or just a safe place in Portland to walk and explore an important piece of history.
Gorgeous cemetery. Well maintained, safe and peaceful. The office and grounds staff are all friendly and helpful. I’ve spoken with at least a few people on the phone and in person there, and it was always a pleasure.
We are so grateful to everyone at Rose City. I thank everyone who helped me and my family, from Buck to Jean to everyone who works here and helps hurting families like ours, thank you truly and humbly and with sincerity.
It took THREE MONTHS to get the death certificate! This was over a year ago, and I'm still angry and traumatized from it. Apparently, the staff member who had initially helped us quit, and no one followed up for two months to make sure that everything was taken care of despite our calling each week. There was also no kind of refund of any sort. I hope that this never happens again to anyone, and that's the only reason I'm mentioning it at all.
