Rosenberg Railroad Museum

About

A Museum for all - We are open Wednesday through Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 1pm to 5pm.

Description

In 1993, committee chairman Judge Larry Wagenbach convinced the Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railway Company to donate 1.47 acres of land on the west side of 3rd Street and north of Avenue F in downtown Rosenberg to the Rosenberg Railroad Museum. In July of that year, the railroad museum acquired its first artifacts from an auction at the George Ranch - the largest being the 1879 business car "Quebec".

In November, 1993, the museum held its first fundraiser at the former Rosenberg State Bank Building on the corner of Avenue G and 2nd Street in downtown Rosenberg. The Harvey House themed event was attended by actor James Drury, best known as "The Virginian".

In the summer of 1994, the museum prepared a foundation for the rail car and the Quebec arrived at the site in the summer of 1995, ready for restoration to begin.

None of Rosenberg's original railroad structures had survived, except for Tower 17, and that structure was still in service, so there was a need to construct a building that would house the exhibits. By the end of 1998, construction began on the reproduction of the Rosenberg Santa Fe depot for use as a museum gallery. The museum building was completed in 2002, and on June 6-8 of that year, a Grand Opening was held, attracting thousands of people from across Fort Bend County.

Today, the Rosenberg Railroad Museum continues to grow in fulfillment of its mission to present the railroad heritage of Fort Bend County. We could not have come this far without the dedication of many members, volunteers, and sponsors throughout the years, and the continued support of our membership and the public at large.

Mission

The mission of the Rosenberg Railroad Museum is to preserve the history and educate the public on the importance of railroads to the development of Fort Bend and the region.

This place is amazing. Very family and kid friendly. Justino, who gave us the tour, was so nice and patient and explained everything amazingly. He took his time to make the tour super fun, and even our 3-year-old was super interested. I definitely recommend coming here. The entry prices are very reasonable as well. Fun day trip for the family. Try to take the tour they start at 10.30 and then every hour. You won't regret it. You get so much history and information. It's just great. They also have a wooden toy train where the kids can play and climb in and a fully stocked play room where they can play while the parents look at the model trains. The tour ends right by the playroom, so this was a nice touch. We will definitely be back.
A nicely maintained museum with many model trains, an original caboose, a switching station and a luxury car. Matthew, my guide, was as enthusiastic and as knowledgeable as a museum guide should be. A ticket is required to enter the exhibits and includes the tour. Everything is clean and well signed.
This museum is great for all ages. Stopped in here on a whim and took the guided tour. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and they have some pretty cool railroad history on display.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
This is one of the best places to take a 2 year old who loves trains. We could spend all day here. The guides gave us so much info and my nephew was thrilled.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
After hearing other moms talk about bribing their kids here I decided to do a little day date with my husband. I had doubts that my kids would enjoy a museum about trains so I thought I would check it out before spending the drive time and money to bring them here and leave after 5 minutes. This place is interesting to me as an adult; it’s not somewhere that I would take my kids to as it’s was a bit on the boring side. It’s very informative but kids don’t want to be informed about trains and their schedules. They want to touch things and climb on the trains and play and have fun.
Very HiSTORIC RELICS. TOUR GUIDE- Sebastian was wonderful and knowledgeable. Due to it raining Mathew saved the day. Laura was so friendly from begging to end. GOOD PLACE to bring young children who love trains. THEY CLOSE AT 3PM.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Had a wonderful time at the event. My daughter, father and I learned a lot. Had fun riding a train they had for all families. It was worth the money. Congratulations to all the people that make it possible.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$6–10
If you like trains or have kids that enjoy trains, this a good place to go. We looked around for a bit but one is not able to go inside the trains or the tower without the tour. We decided to do the tour which is include with the entrance fee. I am so happy we decided to do the tour. Our tour guide Sebastian was awesome. Very knowledgeable and super nice. I recommend going with him if you can. The trains are cool to see from the inside but our fav part was the education center which has some of the coolest model train townsnot sure if that's what they are called.
Such a great museum. We took small grandchildren and all had great time. We love trains, and have visited many museums. The models, preserved structures and history are fascinating and interactive children’s area so fun we to bribe grandson to get him to leave for lunch. Lovely destination in downtown.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$6–10
The guided tour was nice. Several items in the exhibits are very rare and worth the time to check out- the mechanic interlock system , the luxury train cabins and the train models. Highly recommended!
