Description

The Village of Round Lake Beach employed its first police officer in 1937 in the form of a town marshal. This officer patrolled the Village by foot or in his own car. In 1952 a separate police department was formed to patrol the area around the lake itself but was disbanded in about 1960. In 1958 the Department finally created its own dispatch point based out of then police officer Chris Clemmon's home; his wife Eleanor Clemmons was the dispatcher. Malcolm Nelson was the first police chief from the late 40's. Other chiefs were Clarence Yeager and Frank Kelly who would watch for the porch light to come on at his home before the radio system was installed. Harry Clayburn, Carl Schmidt and Clarence Folgers (1964) were also previous police chiefs. In 1964 it was given its first jail cell from the Chicago Police Department's Madison Street Station. Round Lake Beach was the largest community in population in west Lake County with 6,011 in its population, as of the 1962 census, and the largest community in land area as the result of aggressive annexation policy of that administration. With the commercial growth of Rollins Road and North Cedar Lake Road, the village was coming into its own as a business community.Since 2003 the Police Department has set and surpassed a series of objectives for itself, which are established by the Village Board and the leadership of the Department. The Department's shared goals and accomplishments would not be possible were it not for the dedication and perseverance of the 50 employees assigned to the Police Department to protect this village each day. The Department draws its funding from the general budget of the Village and from special revenues such as grants and seizures. The 2008 / 09 operating budget is $6.2 million dollars. The Department has a fleet of 17 vehicles on the front line composed of marked patrol units, evidence technician vehicle, truck enforcement vehicle, and Community Service Officers Trucks.

Today, the Department has authorized 45 full time police officers who are ready to solve problems and act as a resource for the community.

Took my medication and won’t release it because it under investigation , department is so useless when it comes to providing information for people , give you the run around just to provide nothing. All of round lake departments are the same
The community should support the PD. We are blessed to have their guidance and protection. They are part of the solution although many see law enforce as part of the problem these days. People in all walks of life are not perfect. We’ve lived in RLB thirty years. Nevertheless IMO a number of challenges have gone unaddressed. First is speed limit enforcement. Cedar Lake Road north of Rollins continues to be fast and loud. Many vehicles apparently have been modified to enhance the sound. Others frequently proceed north and exceed the posted limit. The same is true to a lesser degree proceeding south on CLR. In other words many vehicles exceed the speed limit by ten miles per hour. Secondly, inoperable vehicles in community parking areas. Such was reported recently after remaining there for at least three months. Third, the seasonal issue of illegal fireworks. These are of an extreme nature. This last year in an incident our security system was activated. When reported we were told enforcement is difficult due to staff shortage on the holiday. Fourth is the problem of pet waste. Owners continue to walk their dogs in residential areas and allow their animals to use the yards of others to deposit waste. Fifth, litter. The “Adopt a Highway” program has made a difference with residents participation. However, many areas with brush and bushes Outside of resident property CLR, etc. appear not to be maintained. perhaps posting signs and substantial fines for littering might be a first step in addressing the problem. Perhaps solutions can be found such as enforcement of the problems noted. In doing so all parties both civil and law enforcement will benefit: Enforcement will send a message to residents and improve the quality of life for where we live.
just now My car was stolen and because it was taken by someone I know without my permission who happens to be Caucasian and I am African American they gave me a hard time and told me it wssntw a crime because he stole my keys when I was sleeping and told me quote pay the fee if you want your car laughed and said I would just be more careful next time. I was mocked talked down too and the whole time theh were talking to each other joking and laughing about my complain. I will be pursuing this because I was not treated with an ounce of dignity and when I called for an officer the dispatchers told me my car was towed in round lake so a round lake officer will be taking my report and an officer was sent from a different jurisdiction that could not even address the issues so they decided to mock me indtesd. The officers and the Sargent in this department are unprofessional untrustworthy and unethical.Every experience iveI had with them has been the same or worse.
Our family had a tragedy yesterday, our grandmother is no longer with us, Round Lake Beach Police and fire department officers arrived very quickly, they were extremely helpful, kind, and did their job very professionally . They did more then our family could expect. Thank you so much guys
This place is honestly a joke they literally just towed my car at 4 am for being parked on the street when no where on the street did it say that there’s no parking. This department and the dept on Townline have been harassing my family and I for months. And then they wonder why people see them as the enemy and not the friend what a joke
All emergency services in the town responded quickly when my dad need medical attention years ago. Very happy to have the force around.
This department has had my phone in custody for a little over 4 months , claiming to be “resetting” it but how does a 5 minute job turn into a 4 month process ??? This place is NOT recommended
Big shout out for the two police officers that helped me remove many ducklings out of a sewer grate
This place is a joke......hope you never have an emergency.
Racist against brown people
