Science City at Union Station

About

Science City is an interactive hands-on science museum located in Downtown Kansas City in historic Union Station Kansas City.

Description

Science City is a place of wonder, where kids and adults can find something new with each visit. Throw the don't touch mindset out the window. There are no tests and no wrong or right answers, just a chance to explore with freedom and pure imagination.

Its magic starts with its location. An architectural and historic marvel, Union Station provides a venue unlike any other science center in the nation. From the moment you pass under the clock tower to your first step inside the cityscape of Science City, the experience sets the stage for making memories.

The educators at Science City are equally passionate about taking that magic outside the science center's walls. Every year, its educators reach out to schools and organizations across the Kansas City metropolitan area with assembly programs, stage shows and science nights.

Wow! What a gem of a place. Kudos to the exhibit creators. Children of all ages & adults alike will find something amazing and interesting to see and learn about. Many reviews say 2 hours is enough - but you can easily spend 4+ hours, especially if you purchase a combo pass to include the planetarium. There were so many learning stations, sky bike, small animal exhibit, painting area, sand area, etc. I would highly recommend! We had 4 kids ages 5, 6, 7, & 10 with us and they all agreed this was a 5 star experience! Finally all staff members were friendly and interacted with the kids.
First timing going to science center and even for an adult I would have to say this is one of the better science museums that I’ve been to. Even the other adults in my group had the same view. The way they have everything set up is very thoughtful to really evoke learning through play. Our group included kids from 8-16yrs and everyone stayed engaged the full 2hrs. We could have spent more time if we had food but we were in between activities so didn’t plan to stay so long. I would highly recommend to go if you are in KC area and if you live in this area a membership would not be a bad idea too as the kids will really enjoy it. The best part is that there is also an outdoor play area that helps the kids to break up all the semi-formal learning to just play! Great great place for kids and cost is very reasonable when you take into account all the education you gain.
AMAZING!!!! This place has everything. My kids are 9 and 11 and had an absolute blast. Really interesting and fun things to do everywhere, and on top of that lots of learning. Even adults had a blast!! And an added bonus is that the place is super clean. A must for families!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$11–15
We used the Pogo Pass definitely worth it if you want to try out different activities around KC. It was a fun time, it’s similar to Wonderscope but obviously has science incorporated into the activities/exhibits. I probably wouldn’t bring a kid under 2 unless you had other kids with you, my almost 3 year old had fun though. Probably most fun for 4-10 years old. Could easily spend 3 hours here if you want to see everything. Close to crown center which is nice so you can make a day of it. If you park at crown center and don’t mind walking a little you can park for free 3 hrs free with validation slip, 6 hrs free if you spend $25 and get a slip from guest services, otherwise the union station garage does cost a little.
Super awesome place! Make sure to wear your walking shoes and expect to spend a good three to four hours here if you are wanting to experience everything. The exhibits are really interactive and interesting. It was really neat to go outside and play as well.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$21–30
We've had a family pass to Science City off and on for the past few years, it's generally a pretty decent way to spend a Saturday afternoon out and about without worrying too much about the weather. The people there are generally pretty helpful and friendly, though really you're pretty much left to your own devices here. The things to be done don't change all that often, so as an adult one would tend to get bored here, but the kids have a good time. Union Station is pretty, but once again, once you've seen it....well, you've seen it. I can't say that I'd recommend eating here, it's expensive and I've never heard great things about the service.
Had so much fun with my grandson. He is almost 2, there were so many awesome activities for him to participate in. He especially liked the toddler corner. That was a nice break. I can not wait to take my 2 older grandsons. What a fun way to spend your afternoon!!!!!!!!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$11–15
Our kids LOVED it here! The location is wonderful so close to so much. The amount of interactive displays is truly wonderful, there's something for all ages. You could spend a LOT of time here. Indoor/outdoor activities.
We love science city! It's fun for a pretty wide age group. My almost 9 year old still loves it and isn't too old. Would definitely recommend week days. It's huge but still feels overwhelming when it starts to get crowded.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Totally worth the hype, the short trip and day passes--this place is a wonderland of discovery and endless fun. The Science City I remember as a kid was a blast but it is just packed now with engaging, fun, educational and state-of-the-art activities and interactive exhibits. Would totally recommend this as a full-day outing to families, groups and individuals of all ages and interests. We got a late start 230pm-whoops! and will be returning soon for a whole day to make it to the areas we missed. There's something for everyone here to enjoy. PLUS! The staff and amenities I encountered were excellent; very accommodating and helpful all the way up until closing time at Christmas time, no less! Enjoy yourselves, y'all ! PS. Used KC Pogo Pass for an adult and 2 kids and saved a lot of money and time with ticketing.
