We feature two floors of engaging interactive exhibits, a living river aquarium and touch tank, and an indoor pollinator garden.
The Science Museum of Western Virginia is the oldest science museum in Virginia, founded in 1970 by a group of teachers and community volunteers to provide informal science experiences to enhance education in the classroom. While the organization has grown and moved into larger and more accessible facilities, it has never strayed from its mission focus.
To make science and technology accessible to all people by being an outstanding regional institution that ignites and nurtures life-long learning.
The first science center chartered in Virginia, the Science Museum of Western Virginia offers visitors what TV, the Internet and other popular media cannot: the opportunity to touch, explore, interact, engage the senses, and experience personal aha! moments of discovery.
We offer hands-on science exhibits, special events and programs, summer camps and outreach classes in school classrooms.
