While this was really cool to visit, I would not call this a museum of photography, but rather just a photography gallery. I was under the impression before visiting that there were a lot of different types of photos to see, based on the word "museum". However, there was only photos from one photographer, who only did portraits. We did not have to pay to see the gallery, though. The photographer was great, and it was amazing to see how many different famous comedians they had photographed. Some of their work included Bo Burnham, Rowan Atkinson, and Noel Felding. They also photographed props from Charlie Chaplin and Robin Williams. I particularly enjoyed reading about the photographer's remarks about some of the comedians. Overall, while misleading, this museum of photography was fantastic. I love photography, so it was amazing to see this exhibit. In the future, I hope to come back to see what new gallery is being showcased.
What a wonderful building, gallery, and event space. The photographic history in their collection is amazing. Such a lovely venue with a theater, central courtyard, gift shop, and wonderful galleries. Easy to find and plenty of parking.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
This was a wonderful place to visit. I enjoyed viewing the exhibits of the students who graduated. This can best be described as a gallery not museum. It's an awesome look into the creative and artistic process of photographers. Every time I go to Daytona I will have this on my list of things to do and see.
Brilliantly curated exhibits. The current UCF thesis projects are fascinating. The Stand-Up Comedy exhibit featuring the stunning work of Andy Hollingworth, however, took me completely by surprise. The collection uses each wall of the gallery to highlight not only different subjects, but different contexts. Getting to see the many faces comedians wear on stage and off is fascinating. The contrast of Eddie Izzard in full show regalia versus another photo backstage in a moment of calm with a cup of coffee, for example, illustrates both sides of the performer: the persona they create for the audience against the actual person in a moment of authenticity and humanity. Hollingworth even brings personality and narrative context to inanimate objects, including Charlie Chaplin's cane, and Stan Laurel's bowler hat. Even if you miss these specific exhibits, the staff at the museum go to incredible lengths to get the most out of each frame. Highly, highly recommended for visitors and locals.
Amazing Museum, great for art lovers. You’ll see both historic photographs and new work. A lot by famous artist & few from people you didn’t hear about but will love their work. The nice thing about it is that every visit to daytona they’ll have something new by a different artist.
What a great place! I thoroughly enjoyed both exhibits. I especially liked the tintypes that were on display. I was not expecting the photos to be so vivid on a metallic surface. They were in great shape to be from the mid 1800s. If you had any questions about the exhibits, there were many friendly faces to assist. There is a small gift shop in the front that had some interesting books and pins for sale. Definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area!
