The Sheriff's Museum consists of 6800 square feet of exhibit space, covering the entire history of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department from its inception in 1850 through today.
The Museum contains cars, motorcycles, real life jail cells from various eras, and replica Sheriff's offices from the 1850's, 1940's and present.
Children will love the Museum - they can sit on a real life motorcycle and use the siren, pick up a bullet proof vest, play with handcuffs, and sit in a real Sheriff's Car!
Adults will appreciate the rich history of the department reflected throughout the Museum. Ask the docent to take a picture of your entire family - locked in a jail cell!
Our mission is to engage and support the youth to "Foster a partnership with Law Enforcement and our Community". We strive to ensure the success of future generations by providing them the tools they need to become strong and productive members of our society.
We follow these four pillars to guide our mission:
EDUCATE- Maintain an atmosphere that is compelling with an emphasis towards creating an educational foundation relating to the role of law enforcement.
INTERACT- Install ongoing exhibits that focus on the Department's continuing tradition of service. New interactive exhibits utilizing applications and touchscreen technology serve as tools to learn.
INSPIRE- Illustrate the many facets of law enforcement that maintain peace and safety. Attract and develop future peacekeepers and leaders to serve in their own comminutes. Celebrate the valor and courage of Deputies who selflessly serve to preserve the lives of others.
REMEMBER- Those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
