Dr. Frances Smith has practiced in Burnsville since 1985. She is a board certified reproduction specialist, the president of the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and a past president of the Minnesota Board of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. John Lawrence and Dr. Janine Anderson offer a combined 47 years of experience in small animal medicine and surgery, avian and exotic medicine.

Smith Veterinary Hospital has amazing staff and they take amazing care of your furbabies. We come from Rochester to get care here. High quality staff and services. We had our miniature schnauzers' ears cropped here, and we are so pleased with the care and results!

I purchased my Doberman in September because his ears were cropped and I had just purchased him I was looking for a place that was experienced in ear cropping that could guide me on tapping his ears and wound care because one of his ears had an infection. When I called mid September I was told that the next available appointment would be October 12. Which was fine, I took him to another vet to look at his ear and to make sure he was a healthy pup. October comes and the day of my appointment I get a call stating that the Dr with whom we were scheduled with had COVID and they would call me back to reschedule. Fast forward, it’s now November 15th anddddd I haven’t heard anything. I say all this to say, if you’re not an existing client…. Lower you expectations.
Smith’s has always been great to me / my pets over the years. Wanted to point out what an amazing and friendly help Joslyn was on my last visit and follow up. So lucky to have people who truly care! Thanks Smith Vets!
Dr Anderson is an excellent, compassionate and understanding veterinarian. She is always very thorough and is outstanding in her ability to quickly diagnose and treat her patients. Her technical and support staff are also excellent and very caring. My dog really enjoys coming to this clinic. He is now 11 years old and is in as good if not better health than he was a year prior
We have been taking our pets to Dr. Fran & Dr. Janine for many years. We would not even consider going anywhere else! The doctors and the staff are all super caring and compassionate! Shout out also to Dr. Julie, who recently joined the practice following Dr. Fran's retirement. While we will miss Fran greatly, Dr. Julie is awesome! Thanks to all of you for taking such good care of our pups over the years!
We've been patients of Dr. Fran and now, Dr. Jannine for over 20 years. They've helped us through dogs and cats with special needs, end of life decisions, behavioral issues, and everything in-between. We trust them and their outstanding staff implicitly. Our current menagerie are all rescues and all healthy. Just had our 10,000 bark and meow check-ups with Dr. Julie, sitting on the floor, covered in Basset Hound fur. The human medical system could learn a lot from these lady vets!
