Smithfield is a town in Somerset County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,033 at the 2010 census. The town was incorporated on February 29, 1840 making it the only town in Maine incorporated on Leap Day. The town was named after the Rev. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.0% of the population.There were 451 households of which 23.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.0% were married couples living together, 6.7% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 30.4% were non-families. 23.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
