It was a girls day due to my grandson was taking a nap but we made the best of it. The staff was super nice and helpful. Very clean even the bathrooms. We had a wonderful time and even went shopping at the gift shop. It was wonderful, would love to see them expand a little. We even enjoyed sitting by the water and took some pictures with items from the gift shop. It was worth the day trip. My favorite part was seeing the turtles and the seating to just sit and watch the big aquarium with all the big fish in it!
We had a great time! We were the first in at 9 AM, fed the sting rays around 10:30, and were out by 11. It was not as big as I thought It was going to be not their fault, just my assumption!, so I figured we’d spend about 4 hours there, but we only spent 2 which was a little bit of a let down. They have a giant tank for you to sit and watch fish, sharks, and a sea turtle which was neat. There are really cute little puffer-esk fish that I could have watched for hours I was with them for 20 minutes. The touch tank was nice with very educated staff! Though we don’t have children yet, we did walk through the kids area and there were a lot of fun activities for them that seemed to be engaging a lot of other children not going to lie, we played a little too!. So It is definitely a great place to take the kids. I just wish there was *more* for the price I paid. I understand that the money goes towards conservation which is GREAT, but the amount of money spent for the amount of time we were there and we snail crawled through there and really enjoyed each exhibit for what It was was just a little bit of a let down. More education, more movies, more exhibits would’ve been nice! Also, the computers moving a bit faster in the turtle recovery center ironic, I know would have been nicer too! We didn’t finish It because It was moving too slow. I think a membership would be worth It because the amount you pay is covered in 2 visits, but as an out of towner, It was just difficult to see the full value. Appreciate the experience though! We did enjoy It, we just didn’t want It to end!
Wonderful experience! It’s not a huge aquarium and won’t take you longer than two hours unless you really get i to each exhibit. But the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and will talk to you and tell you so much about the animals. We loved the hands on area in which you can pet Star Fish, little sharks, Shoe Horn crabs, and more. The huge aquarium is the deepest one in the US, going down 42 feet and spans two stories. We spent quite some time watching the sea life, in part enjoying “Green Bean” - the big, green eel. There is also a turtle rehabilitation hospital that is really cool. Definitely worth a visit.
Not the largest Aquarium but laid out very well and kept up. They do a lot of rehab for sea turtles. Cool view of bridge from back patio.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$16–20
We absolutely enjoyed the aquarium! There were so many different interactive things for them to do there. Between petting mini tiger sharks, starfish, and sting rays! It was a very fun place. They also have this amazing turtle hospital where they rehab turtles from the area that are sick or injured. They show you details on each of their check ups and updates on their recovery! The employees are all super friendly as well. It was awesome to see the employee playing ball with the otters. We had a great time!!!
We loved the aquarium. Take the elevator or escalator to the top, and work your way down. The employees/guides are extremely knowledgeable, so don't be afraid to ask them questions! Ask for a map at the information desk. It's laminated, and you have to return it after you're done, but we would have missed a couple of things if we didn't have it. If you have extra time, ask about the behind the scenes tour. A volunteer took us up to the top of the giant tank, and we watched a fish feeding. It's right next to the ferry that takes you to Fort Sumter. If you plan your day right, you can do both!
Lots to see and do. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and goes out of their way to answer your questions! Loved the helpful nature of all of the employees/volunteers! Thank you, Elizabeth, Selina, and Tom for making our day memorable! This was a pleasant laid back experience. The aquarium doesn't have as many exhibits as some other state/large aquariums. It's 2 levels but still on the small side. There is an eagle exhibit one eagle named Liberty which was cool. The sea turtle rescue area was cool with views of rehabilitating turtles and the operating/examination room is one way glass.
Love this aquarium, it is very clean and well maintained. Still can't believe how close you are able to get to a bald eagle. The main salt water tank is the deepest in the country and has over 500 fish in it including about half a dozen sharks and a huge sea turtle. The kids learned a lot coming here and were entertained for hours. Feeding the sting rays were so much fun too. Make sure to check the show times so you don't miss any of the events.
A little late posting this, but my fiancé and I attended the "SEA you at Formal" Winter Formal. The Charleston Aquarium hosted this event for Charleston Southern University Students and it was a blast! Not only was the aquarium decorated, but we were all able to check out all the exhibits! It was such a magical night! I would highly recommend the Charleston Aquarium to all families as I know kids would love this!
