In the spring of 2011, South Park Telephone completed the placement of a fiber optic cable extending from Fairplay to South Park Telephone's Central Office in Hartsel. With the new fiber optic cable in place, South Park Telephone’s deregulated subsidiary, ghValley.net, has the ability to offer High Speed Internet access of speeds up to 10 megabits per second to the town of Fairplay and surrounding areas. The high speed internet is delivered to the home or business via a wireless point-to-point connection that is best described as a “wireless broadband network”. The technology used is WiMAX.
WiMAX is not Wi-Fi. WiMAX offers exponentially greater range and throughput than Wi-Fi, and it also offers carrier grade quality of service and security. WiMAX provides fixed, portable line of sight service from a base station to a subscriber station, also known as customer premise equipment (CPE).
South Park Telephone is a local company and is excited and proud to be part of the Fairplay community.
