When I was a student, I walked in with the intention of scheduling a yearly pelvic exam. As soon as I walked through the door, the secretary picked up the phone and clamped it to her ear. The entire time she talked to me, she held the phone against her ear and her other hand over her mouth. I wondered if my acne scared her this was before Covid, but it was still odd. She told me that services there are very expensive without health insurance. She directed me to a small clinic across town that, as I found out, was actually costlier. It depends on who you talk to. I'm sure not all of their staff are like that.
This review is for the counseling services department specifically, regarding my visit in February 2020. I was seen by the Crisis Counselor for ~25m when I said I was having acute suicidal feelings. She didn't do anything to try to manage this during our time, just asked a lot bout my life in general. The main counselors were all booked out, so I would only be able to be seen by her and only if it was a Crisis, so I didn't end up coming back. But I understand that they are working with a limited budget, and provide these services for free to students, which is very appreciated. However, the secretary Kyle, I believe was AWESOME! He was so friendly and compassionate. I felt so much happier after chatting with him for just a couple minutes. He also corrected two other staff members who repeatedly used the wrong name and pronouns for me, despite me writing it boldly across the top of every form I was given and him entering my preferred name in their system. He is a wonderful asset to SEMO's LGBTQ+ community, and our campus as a whole. Thank you, Kyle!
there is no parking lot for sick students so I was forced to walk up a steep hill and at my visit they didn’t prescribe me an antibiotic because they thought it was a virus and said to call back if it persisted. So I called back and they gave me an anti biotic and upon further research I found out it was an old antibiotic and not even used very often for infections anymore but is commonly used for acne and prevention of malaria. This clinic did not help me in any way and I will be going to my doctors office in my home town this weekend. If I could give it 0 stars I would.
