The administrative staff at this school is anything besides helpful, informative, and professional. You can count on being treated as a sheer inconvenience when attempting to address questions regarding billing & appointment details. I’ve been coming to this clinic for years for dental services to avoid the profitable markups at a private practice. The quality of work & the professionalism of the clinicians has been a success in my experience. Where it all falls apart is the consistent lack of effort, consideration, and tact when addressing any questions or concerns with the administrative staff in the billing department. Poor attitudes, unprofessional conduct, and lack of interest in assisting patients is what you may undeniably count on from this office. I have reached out for additional support twice from a member of management John C- Business Office Manager with no offer for follow up or coaching of his appointed staff. Instead I was offered a disingenuous “sorry you had that experience.” When asked if he has the ability to directly address the conduct of his staff to promote a more professional & productive atmosphere for their patients, he offered “we try our best.” The lack of initiative told me everything I needed to know. As you may gather from this & other reviews, the staff’s uncouth behavior is a routine bonus for your visit they very rarely disappoint. After following up today yet again, the foundational issue is now clear, there is an inherent lack of leadership & patient advocacy within this organization. Due to this, I would not recommend anyone to pursue services at this institution until they can rehabilitate or remove the disgruntled members of their billing staff. Otherwise, brace yourself for impact during your experience.
Absolutely horrible service and I would not say that without reason. I made an appointment to be seen and drove over two hours. The appointment was to just do X-rays and make a plan of care. I entered the building and was abruptly halted and told I could not be seen because my child was with me. That he was not welcomed or allowed to sit in the waiting room. My son is not young or unable to sit by himself for a short amount of time. I was not told this prior to my appointment or I would have made other arrangements . It was handled completely disrespectfully and ultimately made my child cry right there because the woman behind the counter made him feel as though this was his fault. I will never recommend this place simply for the fact of how things were handled and how disrespectful the woman who spoke to us was. It could have been handled so much better and I truly hope it doesn’t happen to any others.
I have been coming here for my Dental work for over 12 years and have had no issues until my last Student. Things started changing during the Pandemic and afterwards for the worse. The great Staff who was once there retired and the new Staffers are not concerned and unhelpful. My last Student took over my Dental plan and lied about my Dentires being completed so he could graduate. My points for a upper Denture was his main concern only. I have called the School 4 times with no return response to continue my Dental work which "was not" completed as the Student documented. The Professor overseeing my case was an exceptional and very professional Teacher. He reassured me the work would be completed. My last date of treatment was April 26th 2023 and with no response to my request the receptionist reassured she has emailed the team leader each time I speak to her. Now here it is July 15th 2023 and I have Dentures that need finished. I consider that very unprofessional after spending over 15 thousand dollars of my hard earned money without insurance. I had alot of other work I gave their Students my confidence to work on and am very pleased with their work. One bad Apple ruined my confidence in SIU Dental School. I'd appreciate a call SIU School of Dental Medicine. A need to amend this and state the problem was resolved today 07/19/2023. Thank you Doctor Duncan for understanding this issue to get this corrected properly Sir.
I waited for months and months to get an appointment just to get here to be told that I've had x-rays in the last three years so I would have to pay for new ones or get my other dentist to send in my other set which is fine but that means I would need to reschedule and wait several more months!! I've already taken off work so it felt like a set up to get money. The lady asked me if I got the message about needing the x-rays and I told her no. So when I went to the other window visibly upset to reschedule, the lady told me that it wasn't their responsibility to let me know that I needed x-rays. It was common knowledge that I would need them at a new appointment which is true but my regular dentist referred me here and I would assume they would use them and second, I have insurance so it would be an assumption that they would be paid for. Just as maybe a COURTESY. If you knew I would have to pay and i waited about 8 months to get in, you could have let me know. Luckily I had the money. The level of rudeness was unnecessary is all.
Came in to drop off my sibling for cleaning. Which should approximately take 30-40 minutes. Have been waiting for 3+ hours. Came up to the window to ask a question about an update on what’s taking so long but was greeted with rudeness and an attitude. “Appointments and records” window. The old lady with platinum blonde hair may as well be a guard dog. No difference to me. Also witnessed her being rude to other patients. So stay away from this place unless you have 3-4 hours to waste. After reading other reviews, everything makes sense.
I am a former student and had a root canal done 5 years ago, have to have another one on other side of jaw, I know that the student doctors will take good care of me and every one else that uses the dental school
Nobody answers the damn emergency line I’ve called everyday at 8 am unbelievable !!!!!!!! My son is only four and needs this emergency appointment and the receptionist on the main line made it difficult to even tell me the info to call the emergency line at first she told me it’s a two year waiting list for new patients even tho I said it’s an emergency for a four year old !
to become a patient, you must send in your application and paperwork and you will then be put on a wait list. I was on the wait list for about a year before I was called in to do my xrays and a overall exam. then I was placed on another wait list to begin treatment. that waiting list was about 5 months. I'm sure the wait list times do fluctuate, I'm just sharing my experience. so far I have had 5 appointments and have had a cleaning very thorough and some cavities filled. you will be placed with a student, and I have worked exclusively with my student at every appointment. I love that I get to build rapport with him. everything he does is checked by teachers/dentists, so you are still getting quality work. it is very easy to get ahold of the office staff and the billing department has always been very up front and informative in regards to insurance coverage, billing, out of pocket expenses, etc. they do accept most illinois medicaid plans. I personally have not had to pay anything out of pocket for all of the xrays and treatment that I have received. now that I am an established patient, it is extremely easy and quick to get in for an appointment. scheduling/appointments work in two sessions throughout the day. if you want a morning appointment it will be at 9am and could go until 12/noon. afternoon appointments start at 2 o'clock and could go until 5pm. sometimes appointments get finished faster, but plan to be there for the full 3 hours, just in case. I have no complaints. obviously I wish the wait list wasn't as long as it was, but it was worth the wait in my opinion.
Takes time to get in the system and takes longer than walking into a dentist office but it is well worth the time. Amazing care and much more economical than getting work done in dental office. Love the treatment I get.
This place is a joke. They will lie to you and use you for things like getting impressions for the students. I had 4 separate appointments in over a year of getting impressions only. Also more than 2 appointments just to talk, once for 5 minutes. It cost me $40 in gas and missing a day of work every time I went. They never even got to my care plan which included fillings, root canal and crowns. Parker Upchurch was absolutely the worst student I ever encountered. They also overcharge by $200 for X-rays that I had done elsewhere for $50 a couple of weeks before. Dr. Eric Egan told me they would refund my money if I could get them proof that i already had the X-rays. I did, and all of a sudden Eric was never available and never returned any of my calls. The school wouldn’t even let me talk to the director to get this resolved. They told me nobody gets to talk to them. I finally got a response and my money back when I warned them that I would be filing a formal complaint against the school if they kept playing childish games. They also said I couldn’t come back if I accept my refund.
