I was hired through a 3rd party contractor stating they needed passengers for unloading truck loads and pulling orders ext go in for my first day and I am told they have no open positions but they still made me work but when I did everything I was told went up and beyond expectations they called the 3rd party contractor and told them I won't work out! I highly don't recommend working here unless you like being shafted!

Great service and awesome selections of high quality boards that are hard to find

I called the week prior to get a telephonic quote. The gentleman was nice enough but really couldn't give me a quote. I chose to drive out of my way to Castle Hayne see the wood and possibly pick out a type that would work for my personal project. Huge mistake. When I arrived I'm met with a sign stating no walk-ins due to covid. I placed a call and spoke to a female employee. She was impatient and told me they were getting ready to close. When I told her I was in their parking lot she sighed and shouted to another female that I was out front. She then reiterated they were about to close. They were open for another 15 minutes but refused to do business with me. She was short, rude and apparently not happy with her job. I guess they get enough business and don't need mine. I will gladly go to another vender. Who needs this treatment? There seems to be a trend of unhappy individuals that have tried to buy their product. Oh, and I will tell anyone who asks about this place. The owners should read these reviews. People talk.

They've got the specialty wood that you can't find anywhere else in town. A bit pricey though, but they got what you need. Two pieces of rough cut mahogany 1*15*11 = $165.00

You would think with all the traffic this place experienced they would pave the road...im still kicking rocks out of my tires!! The staff likes to take a simple task and make it a long process!! They say they protecting the public from covud...yet...while doing business with the staff, she was not wearing HER mask! It is a slow hassle doing business with Special woods!

I put in an order a special order, was quoted two weeks and eight hundred dollars, this was for 19 boards 8 foot long yellow pine ,one by four toung and grove with a grove cut on the face. This was high price, but I needed it for a customer. I had to pay close to twelve hundred, with excuses that pushed the order two more weeks.. This is what is known as bad business, lost a client, and a company I used to have faith in. I'm done with this scam or joke of a business.

Went to SW first thing Monday morning looking for cypress boards 1"x6"x12' and to have them milled with tongue and groove for a remodel project. They promised to get me a quote shortly so on Wednesday I called asking about the quote and was told i would have it that day come Friday they emailed it and i questioned the cost and board feet. As a general contractor I do know how to calculate board feet. The person I spoke with insisted that 12 boards 12 feet long and 6 inches wide by 3/4 thick was 150 board feet. I sent him a link to an online calculator and he didnt bother to reply back other than saying it was 150 board feet. These folks wanted nearly 500 dollars for T&G cypress which only amounted ot 84 linear board feet. I went elsewhere to an honest supplier and never again will I buy from Special Woods.

I have been buying from Special Wood for more than twenty years. I'm a hobby woodworker so don't buy huge quantities - usually only a few boards at a time. Contrary to what a few other people say they've experienced, I have always been treated with courtesy and friendliness by the owners and their entire staff so I was quite surprized to see a few bad reviews. I have to wonder if the attitude you recieve is reflective of the attitude you go in with.

Probably top 10 worst experience of my life. Be ready sit and wait. No one can answer your questions and most are rude. If your not a contractor buying a lot of wood, don't bother. If your like me and just doing a simple home improvement project and need a special piece of wood, drive up I-40 and cut the tree yourself. I promise it will be less trouble than going here. Also if you do go, call before. They will close the doors whenever they want. Don't waste your time.

The office staff is the friendliest and the yard guys are always Professional. Love Special Wood Inc. Glad they are there...
