Welcome to Spurgeon Funeral Home. Sharing memories to help, heal, and honor.
Spurgeon Funeral Home, now a three-generation business, was founded in Kurtz, Indiana, by the late T.A. Spurgeon almost 125 years ago. Spurgeon, his wife, and both of his sons, H. Jack and Emrole, were licensed embalmers. In 1944, the firm moved to West Commerce Street in Brownstown. The business then expanded in 1956 and H. Jack and his wife Margaret built the present facility on East Commerce Street in Brownstown.
H. Jack Spurgeon operated the business after his father died in 1928. He and his wife Margaret then operated the firm until his death in 1977. Mrs. Spurgeon, along with their sons, Larry R. and Jack D., ran the business until her death in 1994.
The business is now owned and operated by Larry and Jack Spurgeon and Dwight Wischmeier, all licensed embalmers and funeral directors. The secretary and After-Care provider is Lisa Wischmeier.
