My mother has Stage 4 non small cell lung cancer and has been left in the hallway for hours without a call light, food, her meds- they didn’t even give her water. I understand being full and I understand being short staffed, but there’s no reason it should take hours for staff to at least be checking in with these patients left in the hallways. My mother had to call me and I live hours away and when I called the hospital they could not even find her because they transferred her in the computer system too soon, before she was even on the floor of RVU. I am texting her right now and she’s alone in a hallway!
My mother had an outpatient procedure, which she was super nervous for. The ALL of staff on the second floor outpatient surgery was truly amazing , from check in to discharge . Their kindness and patience went a long way . Jennifer, my mothers nurse specifically was so kind and was able to answer any questions we had . Thank you for putting my mothers nerves at ease . I would definitely recommend this hospital. . In addition it was a clean , calm environment. Thank you staff at St . Mary’s !
My Mom and I arrived at 4.55pm to get our blood drawn, Mary the lab Clerk took care of us right away and reassured us we would get our labs and XRays done, I was able to take a deep breath after Mary reassured us, Mary gave my 2 year old crayons and paper to draw and shared with me she had a 2 year old Grandchild also, so we started comparing notes on their development, what a cool Woman,! she was willing to stay over until we got everything completed. Thank you Mary you make the World a nicer place, and a shout out to her coworker who stayed over too and was also very helpful! Siobhan Kennedy
I am not sure where to begin, but I will start with my family and my mom, Marilyn are so grateful for the kindness, respect, support, encouragement that your staff has shown us during the last couple of weeks. The staff went above and beyond to offer a smile, an “of course” or “it’s my pleasure” at every request or inquiry. I found myself in tears not only because I was scared or concerned for my mom, but because everyone just made a difference in our lives during my mom’s stay at St. Mary’s. The staffs’ joy and passion for helping was heartwarming. From Bilal who had a special way of encouraging my mom to try a bit more, to Stephanie and Emily who offer support and tips for my mom to remember things, Madeline who made trash collection our favorite comic relief of the day. And then Mary Jane who made meal selection sound like we were in a bistro in Paris even though the heart healthy menu was not my mom’s favorite choices. Dr. Green, Dr. Amir and Dr. S, were knowledgeable and straightforward but with a bedside manner I have never experienced. Darlene had an angel presence coming into the room to calm us down and was the best advocate for our pleas for my mom to stay another week because she was not ready. Logan, Winnie, the list goes on and on to your team that do what they do and do it oh so well. I really do not know how to thank all of them but thought your leadership team should know you are doing it right! They are doing it right! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I had a freak fall and was taken by ambulance to the ER. I generally HATE hospitals and dislike doctors. If I hadn't needed stitches, and feared my arm was broken, I probably would have just suffered through the pain. Much to my surprise, the hospital was lovely. Everyone I encountered was kind and friendly. My doctor was a amazing. I told him several times that he had indeed entered to perfect profession. I needed a CAT scan and x-rays before getting stitches. Each department was friendly and kind. I hope to never go to a hospital again, but if I must, I would hope to be taken here. I only wish my ER doctor could do my follow up.
My daughter who has an infected tonsil could barely talk went to this hospital which was next to her college. She got there and could barely talk. They took her through triage put a port in her for an iv and set her back into the waiting room where this child sat for 7 HOURS without any assistance. Finally my husband came up there to see what the hold up Was and found her sitting in the corner on the far side of the waiting room crying shaking barely breathing because her tonsil had abscessed and it was closing off her airway. He went and spoke to whomever was in charge told them that this was unacceptable and she finally got back to a room. Story over? Nope. Then they waited another hour before a lady from registration came in and asked her to spell her name. Mind you she had already been there for seven hours they should have already asked these questions but none the less My poor daughter could hardly speak and tried to answer when my husband cut her off finished the questions then asked for medication some fluids anything to help her with the pain. Another hour goes by and then the doctor came in. Best doctor ever. Seriously, great doctor. My husband said he would see him outside the hospital . But as for this place this is the second time this child has been here and waited for long hours to be seen. Last time she was not as sick we just told her to come closer to home and got her in at a hospital closer to our home. Take our advice their doctors are great staff and administration not so much. If you’re on your deathbed go somewhere else.
Anytime I visit the staff is ALWAYS so nice and pleasant which I appreciate. However, the cleanliness of the facility is a zero. You can tell there is not a cleaning crew assigned to this facility because I checked in well before 6 am and was checked into a room that had dried up blood on the floor. If you look at the floor you can tell it has not been swept in so long. It’s very dusty and dirty looking. The white tape I’m assuming was used on another patient when blood was drawn. Why is there a piece from the needle in this room on the floor. This is unacceptable. Every visit my room is very disgusting however the staff is great. Hopefully it get better because I’d rather come here vs other hospitals in my area. I doubt it though because I had my first Encounter was in 2017. Wishful thinking.
Absolutely awful! My son was experiencing a mental health crisis and we were sent over to the psych side to be observed. My son is 10 years old with autism. He was given haldol and after about 24hrs sitting and not being seen we were finally discharged. On the way walking out my sons neck locked up and he fell to the ground. I started screaming someone help us please and all the nurses just stood there staring at me as the security guard yelled at me to calm down. They sent us back to the room we were in, back to the psych unit for a medical emergency! I was then told it could not be a side effect to the meds given and that my son was displaying behavioral issues and this was him acting out! I was so upset we left immediately and I took him to children’s hospital where he was diagnosed with Dystonia from the haldol given. Thank god we were treated as this is serious!
There was quite a wait in the ER, but everyone from reception to the discharge doctor and nurse were kind. I have dealt with very unkind doctors at Beaumont Dearborn, but this was a nice change, despite the long wait. Special shoutout to the nurse, Adam in ER, nurse Kathy on room level 2, and the entire Urology surgical department. All those people are absolute rock stars.
I was rushed to Saint Mary's, Trinity Health Emergency Department. With chest pain, numbness in my left arm, and diaphoresis. From the moment I walked in every single individual involved with my care were outstanding. However there was a standout Layne a nurse training in the Emergency Department has everything to be a top notch nurse. She was able to get an IV that many with 20 years experience have found challenging. Her over all demeanor, caring nature, and professionalism is unmatched. And I feel that she is a great asset to her chosen profession. I thank the staff, medical professionals at Saint Mary's for my outstanding care. With a special thanks to My Nurse Layne. And then when I thought a hospital stay could not get better, I was taken to the Observation area where every single need was met. Even when I was taken to the edge of a medical issue it was promptly handled and all involved corrected and made my anxiety a passing feeling. Then I met the nurse that changed my life forever. The ultimate professional, that person that makes you believe in the impossible. She eased my mind and reestablished my belief that in today's society people tend to be cold and distant. And then I crossed paths with greatness, the warmest, kindest individual I have had the pleasure to meet. Lydia D, RN the ultimate person and nurse whom I was blessed to have as an advocate and caretaker. Thank you, thank you, thank you...
