Filthy! His bed wasn’t changed until day three. No privacy, during a pandemic they are still housing two patients per room . My son has been stranded here for two days waiting on an MRI. They are on constant lunch breaks or down time. They don’t give you a window of time on when procedures will be performed. They treat you as if you are not a person … this is the worst hospital experience we’ve ever been through .
The care at this hospital borders on elder abuse. Patient bathrooms are filthy! My mother was found sitting in her own urine, had not been fed and was left confused and unattended for an undetermined amount of time. You're supposed to feel that your family is safe when you leave them there but in truth, if a family member doesn't stay with the patient they will basically be left to die. And don't cry understaffed, patients are there for care, provide it!
This Hospital's security guards are very racist! In January of 2020, my brother needed a jaw surgery. I was waiting to go in to see him and the nurse allowed my mother and I to go see him. I went outside to retrieve my coat and when I tried to enter a white security guard about 5'5 weighing no more than 150 pounds told me he had to hear from the nurse that I could go through. Be aware, there were other people there and he didn't ask them. I told him that the nurse had said it was okay but he didn't believe me. He didn't believe me because I AM BLACK SKINNED. There was no reason for him to have acted in such a way at all. Why would I have been standing there waiting at all? Nobody would lie about such a thing. Yet, people of color are constantly denigrated by having our validity openly questioned. If you are black please think twice before coming in and to this hospital.
Recently spent 6 days as a patient in SIUH NORTH and it was an AWFUL. Experience! Went into the ED by ambulance & spent 6 hours on a gurney up against a wall in a main hallway surrounded by other patients on gurneys. New patients were constantly being wheeled by on gurneys, as well, and because my feet were sticking out past the wall they kept getting bumped into. Although the staff all wore masks, none of the patients were given masks. My one star is for the ED nurses who worked so hard, never losing their cools . They never stopped moving trying to keep up with all of the patients. When I was finally brought up to a room, it was on a floor I didn’t know existed. It seems to be under renovation however the room I was placed in had an ancient heating system, the bed had a huge depression in the mattress that made it extremely uncomfortable and there was no possibility of showering because there was only cold water. It was understaffed and conversations overheard between them revealed that they were being required to work many double shifts. My roommate had stage 4 cancer with huge tumors that were breaking her ribs. She was in tremendous pain & just wanted medication but had to wait & wait because the staff was so busy. Water pitchers were never filled. Floors were not cleaned while I was there. All of the staff seemed pretty good but the conditions were pretty atrocious!! When I was finally discharged it was like escaping a nightmare. And then 3 days later I tested positive for Covid. So, thanks a lot SIUH NORTH! Never again!
This is my favorite Hospital , well if I Had to got here for any emergency. Been here as a patient and to visit friends and loved ones. I was always treated kindly and with the utmost respect. Two Nurses who work in 2 different departments deserve lots of recognition Nicole Norman and Jenelle Buccheri both treated me with respect and were both very knowledgeable and kind. I've dealt with both on separate occasions. I've come to visit friends and family and whenever I ld see one or the other they would remember me. Other then these two outstanding people, all of the staff were friendly and made my stays very welcoming. I give everyone all my respect and gratitude
Never again!! My spouse had a fever and was in pain after our return from a cruise so we went to ER at 1am. It wasn’t that busy so we went back there pretty fast but waited an hour just for the doctor give him a Motrin and a covid test. We could have did that at home. Everybody was trying to look busy kept walking pass the room but didnt come check on my husband. We waited another 2 hours for discharge papers we had to ask someone to bring us the papers so we can go home. It was 4am when we left
Father in law is here. The nurses... it is all about the nurses. They are all wonderful. The patient food staff is very accommodating.... and the in hospital cafeteria... Michelin Star people need to take notice. The lentil soup is divine.
I went in feeling like I couldn't breathe it felt like I was breathing through a straw... The security guards and the front desk lady were really kind to me but once I sat down I felt really dismissed by the doctors. My lungs were checked and I was tested for covid and other viruses and they came up negative at the time except for one RSV which didn't feel right because of how severe my symptoms were feeling. The doctor gave me a shot and some pills which I let him know beforehand I have gastritis so I figured he would know that strong pills would hurt me. Minutes later I was asked how I was feeling and I told them it barely helped me. I was starting to feel nauseous and more sick literally in tears because of the pain in my chest and now my stomach. My coughing got worse and I let the doctor know how much pain I was in and I was brushed off and he stared at me like I was crazy and told me "Well it's not covid so go home and rest." I was so confused because all my symptoms felt like covid symptoms and I expressed that as well but still it didn't show up on the test so they didn't care. I went home feeling worse than how I went in and I threw up all the pills he gave me and couldn't sleep the rest of the night. The next day, I tested positive for covid and of course my symptoms just kept getting worse. I went to my primary doctor who gave me an inhaler and more things to help me so I could actually breathe.
My wife had a C section yesterday. 2nd floor labor room all the nurses was absolutely lovely and helpful. Today they moved her to 4th floor because she was getting better. But at 4am when she called her nurse because she had to pee. Nurse Lauren on the duty took a long time to come and when she came, she literally told my wife you don’t have to call us over and over for pee. My wife cried a lot on the phone with me. I’m extremely disappointed with their terrible rude behavior. You should treat your patients who has fresh wounds from surgery it’s hard for the patients to get up from the bed and go by themselves.
I can not even begin to describe the incompetence of this hospital. I would LOVE to get into the finer details, but out of respect for those admitted I will not share their private medical experiences with this mostly absolutely dreadful hospital staff. Do not come to this hospital if you have any other malady besides a hangover or a broken toe. I have literally been in the room when a patient has asked for a cup of water, and 2 hours later we still do not have that cup of water. I have been in the room when a patient has clicked the red button to call a nurse, and after 3 silenced calls and 45 minutes of wasted time an annoyed nurse finally shows up to give a SCHEDULED DOSE OF MEDICATION that is now 45 minutes late. And don’t even get me started on the PCA’s. It would be one thing if this was a somewhat rare occurrence. We’re all human, we all make mistakes or get tired or whatever else happens to us. We also understand that the medical field is not perfect and that there is going to be hiccups. But it’s now gotten to the point where it’s more of a daily issue and multiple times daily I might add. I do not want to take away from the hospital staff that actually shows up on a daily basis ready and willing to work. To those VERY select doctors and nurses, thank you. You give yourselves a good name and make patients hospital stays as pleasant as they can be. Let’s just hope you get one of these medical professionals. Avoid this hospital unless you are in a DIRE emergency. And even then, I’d still consider driving to manhattan.
