I am convinced the same people who work at the Apple Store and Trader Joe's also moonlight at Rockler in South Portland-- because they are some of the most friendly and helpful people you could imagine, and have an enthusiasm for their job that you just can't fake.  Jose was a fantastic teacher for the handle turning class, and all the other employees that afternoon were equally as wonderful. They've earned my future business, and I think you should give them a chance to earn yours.

EDIT: Rockler reached out to me to inform me that they’ve had similar complaints recently from other customers and that they’re replacing their sharpening service. They also offered a refund which I didn’t except or ask for, which is massively appreciated. Updating my review to 5 stars thanks to fantastic customer service, and as I said the store itself and all the services they offer in-house have been perfect.  DO NOT USE THEIR SHARPENING SERVICE  Great store, fantastic selection of products and the staff are fantastic with advice and setting you off in the right direction on projects. Biggest issue is their sharpening service. They send your tools offsite to a 3rd party who apparently have no idea what they’re doing. I gave them a carving hatchet and 12 hand tools and they came back to me 3 weeks later after they forgot about my tools. The tools came back to me stained with oils and water damage and weren’t sharpened at all. Using a bench grinder the whole process should have taken MAYBE 2 days, but I was away for a work trip and wanted to come home to sharp tools. $110 for 12 pieces that came back in worse condition than I sent them out. That will teach me to never shop out services again.

They helped me find exactly what I was looking for and the 2 sales associates that helped me were fantastic and knowledgeable. I discovered that they are one of the few places that still carry books/instruction manuals that have detailed instructions on and information about the various woodworking projects that people may want to learn. Online instruction is not the same as a good manual. I will definitely be going back when I have needs for future projects.

My wife and I signed up for a cribbage board making class and had a wonderful time making a beautiful cherry board. Jose was a patient teacher who answered questions and provided a wealth of wood working knowledge. My only regret is that we don’t live closer to take more classes.

I am currently starting my first wood working shop. I went to the South Portland location to start buying some of the larger items. Table saw, drill press, jointer…. The staff is excellent to deal with! Very friendly and very knowledgeable about the products that they sell. I would highly recommend them to everyone! I will be a frequent customer there for the foreseeable future.

The South Portland, Maine store has been awesome to deal with. I took one class there so far and the instructor was very enthusiastic about what he was teaching which made the class very enjoyable.  My online buying experience is a little less enjoyable as I ordered an item back in August which has been on back order since then. I wish I would’ve call the store first as they had it in stock but now are out of stock. I have no idea how orders which are back ordered are filled such as first ordered and first to ship to. Because of this, as much as I like Rockler, I may buy check around before buy my next lathe

Had a great time! The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. Found out they host classes and events that are always changing so there's something for everyone no matter your skill level. Can't wait to attend one!

The best place to go in Maine for woodworking supplies and advice! The staff here are all very knowledgeable and pleasant. There's a great selection of power tools, lumber, accessories, you name it. Anything they don't have in stock can be ordered for you in no time.  In one of my visits I had the pleasure of speaking with the national sales manager for Rockler, a nice gentlemen based out of the Midwest who goes around the country checking on Rockler stores and making sure the service is top-notch. He was a pleasure to talk to, and even took the time to answer some questions I had regarding wood finishes. I never would have expected such service from a high-level corporate guy, but I guess Rockler does go the extra mile from the top of the company on down!  My only complaint is the damage my bank account has sustained since discovering this place :-

I had bought a Triton Planer 3-1/2 years ago which developed a problem.I also bought a 2 year extended warranty thru Rockler.  I had not realized that I had to register the product to activate Triton's 3 year warranty.  Otherwise it's just 1 year, 3 years with the extended warranty. Not the 5 years I thought.  My dealer in South Portland, ME stood behind the product and gave me a new unit.  Now that is customer service at it's best.  Rockler has a customer for life.  It's a great little planer, just make sure you register Triton products to activate the 3 year warranty.
