SUNY Plattsburgh is a medium size institution with a focus on personal attention (17:1 student to faculty ration), experiential learning (in the forms of hands-on research, clinical rotation, practicum experiences, and internships), and small class sizes (21 students on average). With three distinct academic divisions encompassing over 60 majors and 60 minors, students find their passions nurtured and supported both inside and outside of the classroom.
With a budget of over $1 million to spend every year, our Student Association sponsors over 70 different clubs and organizations, concerts, performances, trips, and other unique experiences for our active and involved students. SUNY Plattsburgh also boasts 15 Division III men's and women's sports teams, as well as both club and intramural sports.
SUNY Plattsburgh's location within the city of Plattsburgh which makes both commercial uptown and grassroots downtown easily accessible by foot. Plattsburgh's local eateries, retail shopping, farmer's markets, and festivals are popular hot spots for community members and students alike. Nestled in the Adirondacks and on Lake Champlain, opportunities for hiking, kayaking and biking abound.
The area is also serviced by Greyhound, Amtrak, and an International Airport, making travel easy. Likewise, Plattsburgh is located within an hour of both Montreal, QC and Burlington, VT which are popular destinations for scenic, fun-filled day trips consisting of theater performances, cultural festivals, concerts, and shopping.
