Description

Texas Preparatory Schools are tuition-free charter schools that prepare the whole child through a diverse program for grades kindergarten through sixth. We now serve Central Texas with two conveniently located campuses in Austin and San Marcos.

Established in San Marcos in 2001, Texas Prep has served elementary students and their families for nearly 14 years. Our all-day model welcomes students on campus from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to community-build and encourage student learning, responsibility and ownership. Our vision includes families that commute and those with caretakers who work late or are enrolled in higher education.

Exemplary Academics & Fine Arts
Ranked Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency and ranked number one elementary in the state based on test scores plus growth indicators,* Texas Prep’s academic program can’t be beat. Students are exposed to art everyday through courses inspired by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Fine Arts, Drama Matters and Music Matters programs.

World-Class Afterschool Programs
The Austin campus afterschool program is the East Austin Music Academy, the only local music immersion program of its kind for elementary students, featuring guitar, piano and drums. The San Marcos campus afterschool program includes full participation in the Boys & Girls Club of South Central Texas, featuring guided outdoor activities and lessons in nutrition and well-being. This is my son's first year going to TPS. And we love this school so much.
Great school size, I like that there aren’t as many students in each class, versus typical public school. My child struggles with sensory sensitivities, smaller is better. Some staff have attitude, I don’t appreciate it especially when it’s my child’s first year. Not all children are the same. Wish they had more training for children with beginning recognition for special needs or other accommodations. Be great motto Is something I’m not too fond of. They need to consider children with disabilities that may have worser days. Kids have a difficult time struggling with their own disadvantages. The 504 grading is extremely different then normal public school.
This school is very warm and inviting. I love the small class sizes and how the teachers use the class dojo to keep you in the loop.
My son has been attending TPS for the last few years, since he was 4. He had a difficult time the first couple of years but the teachers never gave up on him. Now that we are nearing the end of 1st grade, his reading is above his grade level and he is one of the top in his class. I appreciate the staff who have had patience with my son and I LOVE the fact that there are so many opportunities to learn additional skills, such as learning musical instruments. My son loves attending TPS!
My two youngest daughters go there and so far the school is magnificent
