Amazing. We went the day before Christmas Eve for our first time at the Byrd and they showed It's a Wonderful Life. We knew to expect an organ concert but we did not know to expect a holiday sing-a-long, complete with jingle bells sung by dogs and fake snow blown from the balcony. It's a beautiful space, the movie was great, the staff was really friendly, the prices were FANTASTIC I can't remember the last time we went to a movie for that cheap, and we had a great time - we very highly recommend the Byrd if you're in Carytown and in need of a great old movie palace!
Spectacular! Came to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" on Christmas Eve and instantly a new tradition is born! This wonderful theater in Carytown has so much old timey flavor it's living history. Before the movie began the organ arose and the audience participated in Christmas Song don't along. Then snow fell. This beautiful theater and organ introduction wholesomely warmed up my heart and it was like watching the movie for the first time all over again. Popcorn and candy was extra delicious too. I must needs come back often to this piece of legendary living history
This old but well maintained theater is situated in a hip neighborhood with plenty of nice restaurants and cheap parking. Visited here for a showing of Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. The sound, image, and seating quality is all good. What to remember about this theater is its historic interior and the organ player that really knew how to entertain us.
The details and the restoration in this theater are beautiful. Very Clean, The seating was very comfortable The sound and Video quality was just great. Easy to get to and there's a parking garage right around the corner. Highly recommend! Also the Wurlitzer coming out of the floor for the pre-show was just an awesome experience.
I have been here a couple of times before...preCOVID. It still has its charm beautiful. Their customer service is always excellent. They show classics and up to date movies, prices are reasonable. Medium popcorn and bottle is water $8, $7.50 for my ticket. You can purchase tickets online. If they sale out online, the box office opens at 630pm, if it's a popular movie be in line earlier because they may have a limited number of tickets at the box office. Sit in the middle and enjoy.
The Byrd theatre is a beautiful place. I always feel transported to the past, and I'm always admiring the architecture and artwork. Love their theme months throughout the year, and love to watch movies from the past which are best experienced on the big screen. Also, they have the last working Wurlitzer Organ in all of Virginia which means they need all the support to help keep it in commission and working, along with keeping the theater running. Definitely check it out the theatre and walk around Cary town when your in the area
An absolute treasure. Arrive before the scheduled movie time so you can check out this gem of a theater. It's a must-see - especially if you can catch the Wurlitzer pre-movie performance. The organ and the organist rise up from the pit and provide both aural and visual entertainment - watching the full body workout of the piano player is as riveting as the music. Don't miss this amazing throwback venue.
LOVE THE HISTORY! Not five stars because of the price. 8 dollars for an old movie. Cinema Cafe is less than that for a new release. Also the concessions are non-existent. 7 dollars for a “large” popcorn that is a small at other theaters. No fountain soda, canned drinks only.
Super cool old movie palace! Ornately designed and in the heart of Carytown. Shows old movies, limited releases and art house films. Still has a functional organ that rises from the floor of the orchestra pit. Limited concessions; pay parking behind for 1 dollar.
First time there but will return. Refreshments were reasonably priced. Comedy show was funny. Seats very comfortable. The Mike's were a bit loud but overall good experience.
