Long Hunter State Park is 2,900-acre park located along the shores of Percy Priest Lake near Nashville, TN. It consists of four main units: Couchville, Baker's Grove, Bryant Grove and Sellar's Farm.
The purpose of the Friends of Long Hunter State Park organization is to foster conservation and educational efforts in support of Long Hunter State Park, and to assist the Park in its efforts to better preserve and protect its existing land resources. This includes but is not limited to the many natural, cultural and scenic features and to assist in providing quality recreational and interpretive experiences.
We encourage you to join us in our efforts to assist Long Hunter State Park by becoming a member of our organization. We co-sponsor several park activities and work closely with the park on a variety of projects and events.
The Friends of Long Hunter co-sponsor a free Nature Circle program for children every other Monday at 10 a.m. Each program features a different theme. You can view the current Nature Circle schedule in our Photos section.
The Friends group also created the Couchville Lake Arboretum, which is the first state-certified arboretum in Tennessee State Parks. This self-guided tree trail follows the two-mile paved trail around Couchville Lake. Arboretum brochures, which include detailed descriptions of all 44 species of trees found along the trail, are available at the park office and at the Couchville Lake kiosk in Area 2.
In addition, the Friends group recently announced the winners of its 2009 Nature Photography Contest. Some of the winning photos can currently be viewed in the park visitor center.
The support given through your membership and donations go toward these many worthy causes. Your donations are an investment in our future.
