Established in 1692 when Pennsylvania was only a decade old, the Lower Burial Ground of Historic Germantown, Philadelphia, known today as Hood Cemetery is one of the oldest American cemeteries still in existence. The people buried here lived within a five mile radius of the cemetery's walls. They were early Pennsylvania Dutch settlers, Revolutionary, Civil, 1812 and Mexican American War veterans, early abolitionists, missionaries who lived among the Native Americans of Western PA during the French and Indian War and countless more everyday people who lived here, each with a story whether we know it or not.
