If I could give 0 stars and leave this review, I would have. DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONES STAY AT THE PALMS!!! They allowed my mother, a respiratory patient to stay without oxygen until she had to be rushed to the ER. She's been in ICU with no signs of progress. I'm told that she may not recover and I'm left to live with the guilt of knowing that place wasn't competent to deal with her issues. They would come to her room and harass her about payment and when she would tell me, they would smile and act like she was exaggerating. They restricted her water even though she was on water pills. It all got really bad 2 weeks before she went into respiratory failure and the nurse even started crying telling me she didn't know my mom needed 24hrs oxygen. May whoever was responsible for all this have the same fate. I highly recommend that this place gets shut down, it's a funeral home in waiting *UPDATE- The owner responded a week after the review and an hr after the state came to visit their facility to investigate why my mother has an anoxic injury aka BRAIN DAMAGE. She was deemed medically competent prior to entering their facility because she was has an psychiatric evaluation done in the hospital prior to being sent to The Palms. The lack of oxygen had to be longer then a few hrs for that to have occurred. Had I not gotten there when I did, my mother would've passed.
I would hope that people see these reviews and place their loved ones elsewhere. The lack of caring by a good percentage of the staff and the majority of the administration is heartbreaking. My mother was there for nearly a year. In the initial months in the rehab hallway, things were adequate. After a hospital stay she was moved to a long term hallway where the number of patients to CNAs causes serious neglect. Call lights go unanswered. She was left to lay in her own filth for hours. Staff turnover is a good sign of how terrible the staff is treated by management. Medications were not documented properly - or at least the orders weren't read properly. Necessary medication was allowed to run out causing missed dosages. At the hospital and next facility, we really came to learn the medications and dosages weren't even what she needed. Don't bother bringing things to the attention of nursing management or administration. Your questions or concerns will go unanswered a large percentage of the time. And don't get me started on the food. We had to supplement her food to prevent hunger and weight loss. Thankfully she was able to move to another facility where she received unbelievable care and attention. We are grateful that was her final experience on this earth - not this terrible establishment. The ONLY bright spot in her stay was the members of the PT staff. They went above and beyond what is expected of someone in their positions. I hope those people are able to find an organization that is better deserving of their talents.
It is never easy for a family member to leave their home and move to skilled nursing/rehab. The facility is clean first and foremost. The food is not home cooking but there are choices at every meal, advocate for your family member if the patient is unable. Dietary will help you. The business office staff are my new best friends. Their knowledge of insurances and payments is outstanding. Every receptionist/switchboard operator is friendly and you are always greeted. The CNAs Melanie and Antonia always respond and support all requests the best they can. Social worker Terri they need 5 more of her. Danielle who does all the scheduling and transportation is very accommodating to patients needs. Entering skilled nursing is not easy for the family or the patients. Especially after reading prior reviews of The Palms. The one recommendation I would like to see is a mental health component for patients and possibly a group component for family that is run by a family member not staff. SJ
Mom was sick and was transferred to the Palm for rehab. In the beginning I was skeptical, but when I met the head nurse Elizabeth and the professionalism and care that she gave my mom, I was at ease. Very good care from the therapy to the case manager's Mayra. My mom got better and is at home. Thank you for the services.
Be wary of this facility. My mother has dementia and was placed in this facility by St Francis Hospice. She was in this establishment for 4 days and we had to call 911 due to a temperature and her sleeping abnormally-which is not her. At the hospital they stated that she has Covid, kidney infection, and bladder infection due to the lack of care. My mother needs help eating and drinking liquids. I informed them at least 10 times during my visits to make sure that it was done. Yet the hospital had to give 2 liters of liquid she was so dehydrated. If you care about your loved ones, DO NOT put them in this facility.
The Palms Rehabilitation Center is the worst place for anyone to send their loved one. They are understaffed. I spoke to one of the CNA’s who stated “I have 11 patients under my care.” How can they assist the patients and especially those that are critical when they don’t have the needed staff. Also my Mim was admitted there in March of this year . She was only there for two months before her health declined drastically. My mom was only sent to the hospital because my daughter and I noticed her health declining. My first visit to her at that place was depressing. It’s dark it reeks and the staff does not have empathy. The first visit one of the CNA started an argument with me because I questioned my moms status. My mom was covered in urine and feces. Now my mom is going to Hospice. She did not get the care she needed at that awful place. Please do not send your family member there if you want them to receive the proper care. It’s a dam shame that this nursing home staff is onky there for a paycheck. They have no empathy.
As far as I know I have to leave one star, they don't deserve that. Coming from the hospital my aunt was transferred here...phone in her room was broken, every attempt to reach her was met with "we will transfer you" *put on hold and hangs up* One worker did try to help saying to my aunt "you have a call let me take you to the call" but then talking to other workers and coming back to say "no I never said that" Out of dozens of attempts to hear from my aunt they bring up the list of people allowed to be told information about her. Which that information was her phone was broken, never asked for medical info, never got to that Me and my sister were her contacts from the hospital, should be transferred over but they said "we need to renew it when admitted here" They never asked her about what her list of people are, just assume she should know that rule and tell them Only asked her food order once in a day and a half. And one worker physically put her hands on her just for leaving the room because of ants and roaches and wanting to be able to actually talk to one of us to rescue her from there"you have to be in your room tonight" But hey at least they cared about one thing, just shoving the release form in her face before she left. Please just make sure you check in with your loved ones if they are sent here, 0/5 and needs a lawsuit
Years after my MIL's ordeal there yet another family member had to stay there for rehab. Things certainly have not changed. You can press the button for assistance and no one ever comes. Night CNA's and/or nurses are very uncaring. The only reason I have one star should be none is the people who do the rehab take pride in their jobs. How can you hire such uncaring people who don't care if you can't get out of bed and sit in pee for hours before someone comes to help them!
My dad was here and was crying and squeezing my hand. He said they were mean to him and they didn’t clean him. The room smelled like feces so bad and was dark and depressing. He was wearing my moms diamond ring on a gold chain that I purchased for him . My mom had passed away 8 months before. He passed away a few days later and my moms diamond ring and chain were not in his belongings. No one seemed to know anything. I wouldn’t leave my dog in this place! If I had any control, I would have taken him out immediately! Do not leave loved in this horrible dishonest, disgusting place!
Been here for 11 years. The staff here are great. The activity depertment is the best Katie, and Alexis go above and beyond for the residents. The therapy department here is amazing they really get to know you as a person. April and Heather are one of the best therapist i have worked with. Donna is also wonderful. Thank you all for everything you do.
