Some people are stylish, other people have style!
I have an extensive background in the fashion and retail industries that extends over thirty years. I’ve done it all – I’ve worked in sales, in buying offices, and in management. I’ve worked for small high end boutiques, large department stores (Bonwit Teller, Filenes), and as an independent sales rep for one of New York’s best known knitwear designers.
Throughout my career, my passion has always been working directly with customers to help them bring out their very best. I love teaching people how to put their best-dressed selves forward and have seen how impactful and valuable that can be. My practice focuses on teaching you how to do this for yourself, and my goal is to position you to comfortably and confidently pull outfits together on your own. Whether you come to me to tweak an existing style, for a complete makeover, or to transition your wardrobe after a major weight change or life event, my goal is to empower to you to be your own stylist!
My focus is helping you to find your best style. Celebrities can provide some inspiration, but I think it’s more important to develop your own personal sense of style – not adopt someone else’s.
To this end, we spend a lot of time looking at pieces that you already own to show you how best to showcase you without breaking the bank. I will show you how to shop efficiently and “smartly” so that you can get back to what’s really important in your life.
Here's how it works:
After an initial phone consultation, I will assign you some homework before my first home/closet visit. I’ll want to see the following:
• Your three favorite outfits (no matter what they are);
• Three articles of clothing that you can’t figure out what to do with; and
• Your three favorite accessories.
During the first home visit we will evaluate what you have, how things fit, how we can put things together differently – in effect shopping in your closet. This will allow us to identify what’s missing and guide our decisions in filling those gaps – all with an eye toward your own unique style.
The second visit will involve shopping. I always start in the discount stores like Marshall’s, Nordstrom Rack, and T.J. Maxx – I have found that a knowledgeable shopper can get lots of bang for their buck at stores such as these. At subsequent visits we’ll expand our list of stores to include department stores, vintage clothing shops, and boutiques – and we’ll keep shopping until your wardrobe is complete.
Finally, we’ll come back to your home (and your newly expanded closet), and work together to show you how to put it all together to build your very own style. I’ll leave you with a set of index cards so that you won’t forget what goes best with what – grown up ggranimals, if you will – and we’re done!
As time goes on, armed with the tools we’ve developed together, you will be able to enhance and evolve your new style. I am always available to answer questions or help with specific clothing needs and conundrums. The Wardrobe Doctor always makes house calls!
