In these trying economic times, the Tucson Urban League is here to lend a helping hand. If you live within the city limits of Tucson, meet the required income criteria, and have all required documents (listed below), you may qualify for utility assistance.

Tucson Urban League staff is very friendly, kind and helpful. So very grateful for the help I received! Everyone there is very compassionate and caring. When you take into account the tremendous need for their services, you will have a better understanding for the need to have patience when going through the process to get assistance. The fact that it takes so long to get through I had to call 200 times in two days in order to get through is not an indication that they don't care or that they are not doing their job. Instead it is because there are so many people in our community who are in need of help. If you need their assistance, know that you will need to be persistent when calling. Be patient, most of all be kind to staff who is there to help you, and be thankful and show your gratitude for the help they provide. I also received many additional places to contact for help with other issues that I am experiencing. I am also grateful to those who donate to make these essential services available in our wonderful community of Tucson!
Be nice if someone ever answered the assistance line!! Been trying for 3 weeks now! Even went to office and was advised they could not help unless I went through the assistance line. Who actually gets help with this organization?
Very difficult to get ahold of a real person. Phone system goes straight to voicemail IF U R calling about rental assistance. It's a waiting game. Leave a msg & wait for someone from TUL to call U back. They take Ur info then tell U, do not call us, Ur situation will go to a board to see if they decide to help U, they may take from 10-14days to decide. While Ur waiting, any late charges R Ur responsability. Seems like this system is flawed. U cud be homeless B4 they get back to U.Try other agencies or churches, don't hold Ur breath here.
These people totally helped me out when I was in a bind! Erma is so sweet and considerate! If you find yourself in a tight spot I recommend calling for a appt!
My husband finally got us an appointment last October 2016. They agreed to pay the electric 387.45. Months go by never paid finally tep said enough. Finally we got a hold of the Supervisor they did another promise to pay more months go by Tep by this time was fed up. We had to pay each month on time because of the past due balance. We couldn't get extensions because of the past due balance. So now it's December 2017 still not paid. Finally January 2, paid. But paid 207.45! So now on top of our bill of 256.00 we are responsible for another 179.00! So basically puts us back where we need help again! I appreciate them helping people its amazing what they do. But it's so stressfuldealing with them.
Its takes so long to go thru their process. I was there 3 hrs. The workers socializing in the back office and not doing their job is why you wait sooo long. And to think they get paid good money to talk with co workers. They need to be investigated. Something just not right there.
If you are looking for utility assistance, this place don't help you. They avoid you no matter what. They will find any reason not to help you. I managed to obtain an appointment but they found I was lacking a document from which was not my control to have it . They end up having you talk to a unprofessional kid which tells you he will call you. The staff here are very uneducated. When I finally got the documentation from what they used as reason not to help me, I went back to this place and let them know I have all that is needed. Well this idiot named david, will keep asking for your number stating he will call back. I had gave this guy my phone number 3 times. What is Davids occupation? BullShitter? Because that is exactly what he does. They fail to mention to you if you lack any documentation, you have to do the process all over again which you have to call 500 times on Monday to get in touch with someone who appoints an appointment. Fact is with my experience, I got discriminated against. This dumb Fk David was acting like I had stupid written on my forehead. They could of informed me the truth instead of wasting my time with how this punk david will call me back when I gave him my phone number 3 times. This guy looks like a fool from the street; What is he good at, Bullshitting? Is that the only thing he is good at? Wow! I'm surprised there is such an occupation BullShiter.
Horrible. Electric is now pending for disconnection. David said he would put a guarantee on my electric bill back on the 3rd. Here it is the 14th, and it was NEVER done. The payment was never received by TEP, and the payment was for a bill back in August 2016! It's now April 2017. The heck is going on in this company? They say they will do things, yet don't do it. When you try to call, the line is never answered or David is not in the office. Not organized at all.
